Ah!! Boddington's an idiot, posing as somebody who actually knows something. Sometimes I wonder what makes some of these writers of so-called wisdom (??)tick. I've seen so much of this type of drivel in the past few years, wonder what makes it proliferate? Bad gas?? Regards, Eagleye.
 
Interesting read that I mostly agree with.

Guys get their knickers knotted because someone says that "their" cartridge is redundant, which means he must be an idiot. We could make do with 10% of the factory cartridges out there and the animals and targets wouldn't know the difference.
 
Truth is you could scrap everything but the 375H&H and still hunt anything in the world....but where the heck is the fun in that? we are gunnutz arent we?
 
The 6.5X55 was the killer for me. That round is older than he is. What in the world makes him think it will die now.
Technologically, it's not that far removed from most of the "modern" rounds out there. Reasonably flat shooting, and with a killing ability that's hard to beat.
Funny, he didn't include that American icon, the 30-06. I guess he didn't trust his defenses THAT much.

Yeah, Surprised he didn't dump the 250-3000 which the .257 outperforms mostly because of the twist that stabilizes heavier bullets. For a deer load it is better by far than the .243. I guess because of all those Savage 99's.
I do agree that the manufacturers continuing to pump out new cartridges that duplicate the performance of others is stupid from a shooter's standpoint. However, the name of the game is to sell new guns with the hope that a new cartridge will generate excitement and catch on. I don't see the point of the short magnums which sacrifice one cartridge magazine capacity, just to work in a shorter action.
