Gentry was charged under the Lacy Act--nothing else. Deer and Bears in a pen in Minnesota are classed as livestock and treated as such. You buy it and you can kill it anyway you like. Depending on how you do that--you could get charged under animal cruelty legislation.
Any of you guys know what the Lacy act is or why it was passed? It's over a hundred years old and it is named after a Senator from Iowa. It was an attempt to shut down the commercial trade in waterfowl. Shootin ducks on the praries and shipped to resturants in Chicago and New York. Very effective at that. Nowdays they raise ducks and geese on farms for the ressturant trade--kinda like they do with deer and elk in Minnesota. Game Farms are big buissness in some states.
I think what Gentry did was sleazy--I also think what the prosecutor in Minnesota is doing is no less sleazy.
