Reloading .32 S&W Long this AM, decided to take a break for lunch...UNPLUGGED the fluorescent fixture over my shooting bench, holding the plug in my hand, nowhere near the outlet..and ZAP !!! very heave electrical shock up my hand into the arm !! This from an unplugged fixture, while standing on rubber based tiles ! Must be feedback from the ballast unit..never heard of this before. Luckily the powder can was sealed up, and not in my hand !

That must have been a shocking experience... Sorry had to.

Being shocked isn't to bad, I've been shocked several times working on commercial hvac equipment and had caps discharge when I accidently touched them and the metal body. 575v/230v

I doubt very much that the powder would ignite, there was a video somewhere on the Internet where someone put several thousand volts near some powder and nothing happened.

Wow, I have never heard of such a thing. Glad you are okey! I don't know much about electricity, but perhaps it was from the ballast. I remember taking an old camera apart when I was a kid & the Capacitor was still charged & when I touched it, it felt like a dog bite to the bone.

I too load for the .32 Long cartridge, it is fun to shoot & reload for!
Thanks for letting us know about your experience, I will be keeping it in mind too....

Smokeless is actually kind of hard to ignite. I tried laying some out on a patio stone, it actually took a second or two with the lighter held right to it for it to ignite.
Static sparks have a really hard time igniting it.

If it was a double tube fixture, they put a capacitor between the tubes so they don't strobe at 60 hz. together. Be glade they don't strobe in unison, its an instant headache.
I'd suggest you get a switch for your lights, one rated for fluorescent lights.
