Ashamed to be a hunter

I would guess it was lost off a trailer, or tailgate.....If they had wanted to toss it, they would have found a better spot.....Nobody who puts that much time into dressing throws it beside the road for God, and everyone to see.

My wife seen it about noon when she came back with the mail. She thought it had fallen out of somebodys truck. She took me right back to take a look and no it a whitetail deer wrapped in cheeze cloth. It bothered me so about 4 hours later I drove back to take a pic. Its been dumped. As I said our deer seasons been over for abour 7 weeks.----Cowboy

It's not a very good idea to comment without fully knowing the facts , although it seems that the game has been taken a good care for some time then something happened ....But no need to be ashamed of being a hunter , I would call the mnr to keep the meat or unwrap for the wild . Nature has taken care man's mistakes - Biggs

I think I would have just contacted the authorities about your find and gotten a permit from them to have it in your posession and used it for yote bait as you thought of doing. Too bad, seems like alot of work and a shame for that animal to go to waste. :( After loking at the picture again and zooming in I am not sure if it is a deer? The hair on the legs look like coyotes/dogs? The size reference from the footprint behind it also makes it appear not very large. Almost resembles a large dog. It's hard to tell.

If you did you would be the prime suspect....walk away .
As I've said before, nothing goes to waste in nature.

somebody went to a lot of trouble only to dump it. maybe the tracks are from people that found it laying in the middle of the road and tossed it in the ditch.

I called the game warden a couple weeks ago to report a deer in the ditch. It was gutted, skinned. cut in half & dumped. Not much they can do but keep watch of the area. Good thing you did not take the deer for bait! Can't use deer for bait in Alta. There is no reason that bones etc. can't be dumped out of sight.

Cowboy, I noticed you said it happens alot in your area. Did it look like it had spoiled before it got dumped?

Many different possible scenarios, ranging from something legitimate to just outright laziness. A real shame.

Na, I do it every winter. We get lots of road kill in my neck of the woods. In Saskatchewan, you do have to go to the COs in person to get the permit, which is a PITA.

we hung a deer in the walkin cooler one year and left for three days had an ice storme and lost power by the time we got back the deer had spoiled . what you going to do realy DUTCH

Not sure what happened here, but I know a few years ago we had a small buck that we skinned only to find the meat was green inside.

The deer was shot just a few hours before. The buck smelled bad when we dressed him too. We figured the buck was hit by a car or something that caused some kind of internal injury as there was nothing apparent on the outside. The guy who shot the deer said it looked normal when he shot it.

I drove the buck out to property we have permission to dump bones, etc. and dumped it in the woods for the coyotes. Perhaps something like that happened here as well.

I would be a waste to allow a whole deer to spoil.
