indecision time has come again !

my new shorty m14 shoots pretty well. so now it needs additions so that i can shoot it better :p

do i scope it.. or do i red dot it

scope would be something like Leatherwood or Falcon .. red dot would be Aimpoint M2 or M3 possibly with a 3x magnifier

5-600m is as far as ill be shooting. wont be tack driving either, just reactive targets like dust or water filled buckets/bottles

so have at it

Wouldn't a red dot cover the bottle, bucket, stand and most of the countryside at that distance?

OK, maybe a little exaggerated, but the m2 has a 4moa dot iirc, which would cover 20" at 500m

The m3 has a 2moa dot, which would be 10" so that may be doable. Still won't be very precise.

Aimpoint Comp ML3 in a forward mount shorty M14, all black with a good leather Turner sling. It's simple. This is one example, but it needs BUIS.

That one has its standard irons for backup ...... ?

or do you mean co-witness? thats what QD mounts are for

If you look closely, the above shorty doesn't have a front sight. The rear sight is there...but no front sight.

Not a big deal though...a Marstar gas lock front sight and a wrench will get him fixed up in no time.

Nice shorty, BTW.

Oh...and for my money there are two answers to your initial question. Inside 300 meters, red dot. Beyond 300 meters, scope. Decide which is your priority and go from there.

.

if you look closely i think you'll find it does have a front post :)
just hasnt been painted

also.. just to help me not reach my decision any easier i have ordered an ARMS18 and a UTG trirail haha.. so i have the mounts.. now just need to find which optic..

i must admit i am leaning heavily on aimpoint with magnifier .. if i can get a ring the right height then theres a 4x magnifier for sale on our version of Ebay..

At the distances you're shooting with it, a red dot may be a bit inaccurate as the dot covers quite a bit of space at that range, unless you're just looking for minute of bucket which is very easy and fast to acquire with the red eye.

Good luck and post up some RRs when you get er done.

Mike

i would use aimpoint or eotech. both will stand the impact. i have a picatinny rail, so can just quick release the eotech, pop it on the M14.
