Assault Rifles For Hunters = "Terrorist Rifles" - Jim Zumbo Blog

I'm really struggling with this one. I think I agree with Zumbo but I don't want to give the "gun grabbers" any more excuses.
I just can't see hunters with a great deal of respect for the game using military autoloaders. Doing so would seem to be part of a " whack 'em and stack 'em" mentality that does not fit my PERSONAL ethics. I think respect for the game is the key. I know there are a lot of hunters uncomfortable with the discussion. Maybe we should be discussing our public image as hunters more. I know we won't make any converts by doing whatever we feel like and "to hell with them" - I for one do try to make converts out of non-hunters, and part of that is to stress our love for wild game meat and the traditions and joy of the hunt while respecting the animals that we kill.
I did kill my first deer years ago with a military surplus .303, so hunting with military arms is not a black/white issue to me, just something worth keeping an open mind about.

:puke:
Ouch, scary. What exactly does the appearance of one's firearm have to do with respect for the game they chose to persue with it? How would you feel if the first rifles to be produced were black and made of aluminum or poly... would these new-fangled Brown Wood stocked bolt action firearms then be the scourge? (Those high-tech muzzle-loaders would just be appaling then.)
There is nothing to keep in mind here. The actions of the hunter determine whether or not they are following the 'rules' of fair chase and sportsmanship. The second you start thinking that the action/colour/composition of their chosen firearm determines this is the second you have lost touch.

I've always thought that Zumbo's articles on hunting were quite thoughtful, and generally a good read.

I applaud him for standing up publically, whatever his motives, and admitting a gross error in judgement. As far as apologies go, if he does an AR equipped hunt with Nugent, perhaps some others of his age/mindset will begin to realize that there are some legit sporting uses for these rifles.

Without doubt, as far as damaging commentary goes, what Zumbo said is about as bad as it could get from a gunwriter. I'm interested to see how this will play out in the pages of OL and elsewhere...

It does start with that sentiment both here and with the Libs.

The difference ( and there is a BIG difference) between Zumbo and i is the fsct that I do not mind them as far as anyone else shooting or hunting with them.
I personally do not own any semis except for an 1100.

This guy is a Judas.Asshat comes to mind.I don't own any semi's,I like levers and bolts, but I'm not going to sell out fellow gunowners spouting nonsence about terroist guns. It's dumbasses like him that make gunownership a neverending uphill battle.Hope this goof can't get a job at Burgerking by the time the dust settle's on this.

The anti's are already all over this. Thanks Gumbo next time sharpen the knife before you put it in our backs.

I believe that there are some things you can take back and some things you can't. What Mr. Zumbo did with his first comment was a classic Freudian slip up of the tongue. His first comment is what he actually feels about semi-autos - His second comment is what he should have said had his brain and therfore his insticnct for self preservation kicked in before his emotions. His second retraction is damage control pure and simple and should not be taken seriously. I will not buy any mag that has his publications in it from now on. I do own semis and I would love the option to take them huinting once in a while but those days are gone for us. At least I got to do it once long ago and it was a great hunt.

From his bio....

"Zumbo lives in a log home in the mountains between Cody, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park, with his wife, Madonna, and their two Labrador retrievers -- in an area he claims offers the best big game hunting in the lower 48. He routinely hunts whitetails and other game in at least 20 states each year. He also hunts Canada and Alaska extensively and has hunted abroad as well, including Africa, Europe, and South America. He has recently completed a personal goal of hunting deer in all 50 states. He has already hunted elk in every western “elk” state, and has hunted all but two Canadian provinces."

Dude is married to Madonna!! I'da never guessed. She keeps it pretty quiet!

Anyway.....hopefully he doesn't hunt Ontario....we have enough of that lieberal trash BS around here!

Outdoor Life has always been, and will always be, a steadfast supporter of our Second Amendment rights, which do not make distinctions based on the looks of the firearms we choose to own, shoot and take hunting. While the article is about the hunting aspects, don't be fooled.

It's just another attempt to make some guns OK and others not based on RETARDED standards.

Once they get their hooks into one group, they have a better chance at the rest of us.

Very well said!

I'm not going to divulge what type/s of firearms I own and use for hunting at this moment. I intend on keeping all my options open, and the only way to do this is to support ALL forms of legal gun ownership.

Besides, I've seen plenty of pictures of Mr. Zumbo to make an honest guess, that his choice of diet has probably contributed to more fatalities than the "evil" firearms he describes.

Besides which Today's "Assault Rifle" is tomorrows hunters milsup. :D

Also notice how he leaves out how many parts of Scandinavia encourage the use of silencers in hunting...but wait ain't that an assassins tool?

Japan banned imports of rifles into China for fear of an uprising, hence the mass import of C96 Mauser pistols. One generations state of the art weapon is the next's hunting rifle.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Remington to Sever Sponsorship Ties with Jim Zumbo

Madison, North Carolina – As a result of comments made by Mr. Jim Zumbo in recent postings on his blog site, Remington Arms Company, Inc., has severed all sponsorship ties with Mr. Zumbo effective immediately. While Mr. Zumbo is entitled to his opinions and has the constitutional right to freely express those opinions, these comments are solely his, and do not reflect the views of Remington.

“Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars defending our Second Amendment rights to privately own and possess firearms and we will continue to vigorously fight to protect these rights,” commented Tommy Millner, Remington’s CEO and President. “As hunters and shooters of all interest levels, we should strive to utilize this unfortunate occurrence to unite as a whole in support of our Second Amendment rights.”

We regret having to terminate our long-standing relationship with Mr. Zumbo, who is a well-respected writer and life-long hunter.

Firm and quick response directly from the CEO of Remington! I will keep buying from the businesses which support shooting/hunting/gun owning community.

But I will. I own and hunt with lever's, bolt's, autoloaders and singleshots. I own rifles, shotguns and pistols. I'm also not affraid to say so. I am proud of who I am, what I do and what I use. If anyone has anything to say about it, I usually have alot to say right back. My best friends girlfriend hates guns. She's making him get rid of his. Everytime they come over, the first thing I do is crack open my safe, and we start fondling them, and I even attempt to get her involved. She always says "NO!" I've tried to be diplomic with her. As I have with others. But you can't ration with these people. Am I hurting the cause, maybe, but these type of people are so stubbern, I've decided to have fun with them. And if it comes down to it, I'm always famous for telling these folks to pi$$ up a rope.

50 years ago hunting with an M1 Garand was hunting with an assault rifle... now the M1 is an OK option.... the M1A is a borderline item and the AR-10/15 is definatly out, however my Valmet 308 is ok......

For the most part they all shoot the same ammo and you can mount the same scope onto all of them.... some have a wood finish and some have other finishes.... it is the 'LOOK' that matters - just goes to show you how shallow people are... paint a wood stock black and suddenly it is EVIL..... same gun, same ammo, same everything - just new paintjob.

Doesnt this make sence?

I would say that 90% of people are VERY UNEDUCATED when it comes to guns.... and gun ownership.
