Assembling a basic collection?

I really don't see myself reloading anytime soon. From what I understand, given the amount I shoot, the savings wouldn't be worth the time and effort involved for me....maybe in retirement.
Just keep an eye on the EE and if something comes up at a decent price that you want, go for it. I just picked up a very good 22LR semi auto target pistol (Colt)...the finish is hooped but it shoots like a champ.
Once you get a few guns together you can trade, this can work out really well because if you eliminate cash then you are going on perceived value (how much you want it) which is not really the same.

This is good advice. Also save up as buy the model you want too. It sucks knowing you could have had a better one for a few dollars more. I spent a lot of time and money turning my regular P226 into an elite with an SRT trigger, G10 grips, and extended mags. Could have just bought one like that from the get go.
From what I have gotten so far I must say my favorites for shooting are a cz 75 shadow, and smith and Wesson revolvers. From my experience I would highly suggest model 10 or 586/686 over the 629/529 as 357/38spec are much nicer and easier to shoot (both price and recoil).
As for the 1911s I must say I really hate the beavertail safety, the one on mine has to be held just right or it won't engage (I am thinking of drilling and pinning it...)
For other interseting historical guns look up the 1895 Nagant revolver (really cool action), and a luger (navy or artillery).

i kinda hate to say this, because i dont drink the cool-aid, but a Glock seems to be conspicuously absent from your list.
maybe you didnt take this in your PAL course but everyone has to own a Glock to be able to say they have a serious gun collection.
for the price of most new striker fire poly guns you can get one of each every 2 months and have a nice collection to pick from.
Glock, M&P and Jericho all have nice range kits for $600 price range if ya snipe them on sale.
i was like you, i started picking up a smattering of different guns, then i would go off on a tangent with some flavor.
i was working through the poly guns then hit the M&P line, loved it, now i have 5 of them!
then i started getting more variety again stumbled into the 1911's.... a dozen or so later.....
fun hobby!

Restraint is the hardest skill to practice
For the money, it's hard to beat a Norinco Sport Model 1911 for a good shooter. The Smith and Wesson M&P is a good polymer handgun, with a lot of accessories in the range pack. Also, I have a Taurus Raging Bull .44 Magnum. A great gun that shoots well. I also have a Taurus .357 and a .22 Mag revolver. Those are also good shooters.

Thanks, I'm not sure what's next (although that is at least partly dependant on what turns up). A Tokerov would be a less costly choice...... although a .22 revolver or either another BHP (this one in 9mm) or a P38 would avoid complicating the ammo situation further by adding yet another calibre. Then there is the Enfield No2 MkI's that Tradex have for $289. They look interesting. I also like the idea of having some version of a CZ75 and a 1911....
Lots to think about. Maybe a medium sized 5-6 cu ft safe should be the next purchase as the trigger lock and locked cabinet drawer storage method may run out of room soon!
I just picked up a Tokerev Sportovy 22 for $129.00 from SFRC a couple weeks ago. You can't beat the price, I'm not sure if they have any more available. Tradex has a couple greatdeals on the TT33 going on right now.A GSG1911 in .22 is also a good option.

I'd vote for minimizing the number of different calibers
