Assembling sks

I just got my SKS in the mail and am having trouble assembling it. First of all, how do you put the bayonet up? It seems to be locked down from what appears to be a medal rod that goes underneath and along the barrel. What does the bolt system look like?, there are afew parts that I am pretty sure are the bolt, but I don't know how they go together...
 
Bayonette; its on a spring, grab black metal piece at the end of bayonette push up toward end of rifle. The metal rod is the cleaning rod. The bolt and the bolt carrier snap (pretty much) together. You can find lots of videos on you tube for assembly and dissessambly instructions.
 
I solved the bayonet problem, and then I put the barrel into the stock, but it isn't in correctly, and now it is stuck and I can't get it out.
 
okay, nevermind the bolt problem, it was something different altogether, but I still can't seem to remove the barrel/top part of gun from the stock; it is stuck solid, and it definitely isn't in right. I can move the back part up a bit, but it seems to be locked in place near the front of the rilfe, and I think I will end up breaking something it I try to apply the force that seems to be required in order to get it out.
 
can you post pics of your trouble? i also had problems with my gun that involved the piston? if that is the right word for that piece i also had to grind a bit of metal off and i sawed off the wood piece on top
 
When I got mine I had the same issue. I used liberal amounts of breakfree and let it soak in for a little while before trying again. I know there are a bunch of really good youtube videos about how to disassemble and reassemble an SKS, but I'm stuck at work right now and don't have access to them :(

edit: Also there should be any grinding required AT ALL
 
oh not to use it, but i assumed you were changing the stocks, i dont see why you would have to take put it together if you just bought it?
 
hrm also i write good, i meant in order to change from the wood stock to a tapco one i had to make a few adjustments, are you trying to install the duckbill mag or something?
 
I ordered it online and it came disassembled; I did however just get everything apart now so that problem is solved. I guess I just have to ask how tight is the top assembly/barrel supposed to be in the stock? Are you supposed to be able to wiggle it around a little bit?
 
keep in mind my stock is plastic, i can not move my barrel around in my stock, but i can move the gastube and the plastic piece on it from left to right a little bit
 
Okay, so I got everything together and then discovered that I didn't have the magazine in correctly to begin and it can just come out with a slight pull. Is it possible to put the mag in after the trigger assembly is in? If not, how do you remove the trigger assembly?(seems lodged in there pretty tightly)

no, mag in first, trigger assem. locks it in place.

There's a little button behind the trigger guard, take something like a screw driver (I use the cleaning rod) and push really hard on it, it'll pop in and the trigger assem. will pop out.

Don't worry about pushing too hard, you can't break anything.

That's normal. Most SKS will have a little wiggle there, especially when the rifle heats up.
 
All right, now I am having some serious problems. I went to the range to shoot the gun today and it turned out the trigger group wasn't in correctly; so I had to remove it and put it back in which caused the magazine to come out of place. I tried removing the trigger group again while holding the mag in place while I put it in; I am coming to the conclusion that it is impossible or at least hard as f8cking hell to put both the mag and trigger group in correctly together. I settled with firing single shots.

The next and perhaps bigger problem is I am unable to get any of the pieces that make up the top assembly apart. The metal thing on the back is lodged on tight as hell much unlike the way it simply "pops off" in youtube videos demonstrating how to strip an sks. And I can't get the gas system apart or anything else either ...
