I've been asked a number of times to help out guys that have got lost, taking one of these apart, and can't get it back together.
Today, I found this video on youtube.

The guy has his parts names wrong, and he's working on a rifle from the 50's, but the video itself is pretty good, and most of the '94's are pretty close to this.
Hope it helps some folks.

Thanks for sharing. I took mine apart years ago and Iam still recovering. The twitch is almost gone.:)

So, I've got a pre-'64 94 just like the one in the video, with the toggle on the hammer and all. I've watched the video a number of times, and have a copy of the castbullet.com disassembly instructions, but I'm still having a heck of a time getting the rifle put back together. I just can't get the trigger assembly and the hammer lined up in the proper place (the video doesn't show that particularly well); I don't know if I've got a particularly strong hammer spring, or if there's some trick to compressing it long enough to get the trigger assembly back into the frame that I just don't know about. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my bits back into being a rifle? Is there a good manual or reference for re-assembly of the Model 94 that anyone can recommend?

Thanks!

1- You need to loosen the main spring tension screw.
2- When slipping the hammer in you need to sqeeze the trigger and hold it while you insert the hammer screw
3 -hook the main spring onto the hammer stirup and now the mainspring should lay flat enough to start the mainspring screw.
Hope this is helpful

I find it pretty easy to disassemble/reassemble Winchester 94's. Takes me the same time as my Marlin 336. From my experience most Winchester pre-64 1894's have smoother actions/lighter trigger's than the Marlin's.

I have two Winnie 92s...similar design but different too. Closed bottom design. I just clean it from the muzzle end and wipe out the action and breachface. Will this be sufficient or will it eventually gum up?

I got my pre-64 last week, YouTube was my first stop... lol....

Watched 3 videos and got her all apart cleaned and put back together without any issues.

Dont know how the old folks did it before google.... Must of actually paid attention while taking appart stuff... lol...

Those 94's scare me. I need to pull my boys 94 apart and get the gummy oil out. This will help a lot. Thanks

I have worked with a gunsmith putting a 94 Winchester rifle back together (one of the rifles he gets in pieces in a box, to put back together) and there is no way I would take one apart on my own!
The gummy oil can easily be removed with solvent, or other cleaner, in a pressure, or squirt can. Air pressure really completes the job, but not mandatory.

I am no gun smith but I managed my 94 ok.

Savage 99 on the other hand, that cost me a bottle of whisky and the embarrassment of handing it over with parts in a ziplock bag.
