Assembly problem with #4 Enfield

Valid point. And your right about debating the bedding, from what I have read the Experts don't even agree. ;) I just checked the clearance on the hand guards with some plasticine and there is about 1/16" to spare. I think I'll try shaving the groove down. I let you know how it goes. Jack

Well I shaved the groove down last night with no results. This morning I tried a band off a #5 and it fits like a glove. Although it is deep in the channel. Now I have a #5 without a band. I am curious as to why this band would not fit. Maybe like Zuke suggested, it's off a #1  Jack

Post a picture of the 2 bands side by side. Generally there is little difference in the bands however it's possible there's an issue. Does the suspect band fit the same way on your No5?

I think the problem band was manufactured by someone other than the factory. I only have a #4mk2 and a #5 and both of those bands look the same. I can see where it was welded and ground down. looking at the three of them, the problem one looks rough. Like I was saying, likely manufactured in the Khyber Pass or somewhere like that. Thanks for all the help:cheers: Jack PS. the suspect band doesn't fit the #5
