Hoping a fellow black powder gunner can ID this reproduction Short Land Brown Bess. I can't ID the maker mark. Thanks in advance.

H. K. (Bob) Seymour was a friend and he taught me to build longrifles in my teens (1960s). Apparently he had a contract to build several hundred, possibly as many as a thousand Brown Besses for the federal government to use during Canada's centennial celebration in 1967. Some went to Fort York and many went to Fort Henry in Kingston, I believe. He may have also sold some privately. They were superbly accurate reproductions from museum pieces he studied. Later he built Charleville muskets for Fortress Louisburg in Nova Scotia. Plumbing was his trade but he was an incredible craftsman. I provided him with the original formula for the browning solution he used on the steel parts.

Bob sounds like he was an outstanding gunner and respected. I had originally planned on moving this Bess but, after reading up on him (and his work), I think it will stay with me and I think I have a spot in my war room for this piece. Thanks for your post and information Ol' Flinter.
