Astigmatism and Red Dots

Hey I recently got an sig Romeo 5 and have an Astigmatism. It’s been working decently on a low setting anyway to reduce it further?

Ik a Holographic or prism is ideal. May end up getting an Eotech. The Romeo was cheap so I got it as an in between as my firearm didn’t come with any iron sights.

Let me know what you guys think or any budget optics 2-300 range that work better for you.

You have a couple of options.

You can visit an optometrist and get corrective lenses that addresses your anti-stigmatism depending on the severity of yours.

The primary arms 1x prisms are a pretty good value marstar has the slx’s for about 380 and the glx for 430. I have a couple of the slx’s that i like i haven’t tried a glx yet. I know those are outside your budget.

In your budget you could try a vector optics paragon from opticsspice for 300 or wait to see if you can find a sale on a vortex spitfire ar.

I have corrective lenses, may or may not have the coating for it though. I honestly think my best bet is to save up for a bit and buy and eotech.

I also have an astigmatism and the Eotech is no different than a red dot.

I have an Eotech, various red dots and some Primary Arms prisms.

The Eotech has a 1 MOA dot which helps a bit verses slightly larger dots on typical red dots but honestly your best bet is a prism scope. Or if you don't want a fixed magnification get an LPVO.

Your astigmatism is not 'corrected' with a 'coating'. It needs 'correction' by a correct Rx. Your Dr maynot have felt yours was 'bad enough' to correct'? Maybe next set of glasses can be corrected? Also, Laser can correct many Astig issues.
I had Cataract surgery in both eyes and mine went away, so it had to be due to cornea variations, vs retinal.

I’m like -8 in both eyes, genes were not on my side. I needa see if I qualify for laser or anything like that.

The cornera vs retinal sounds right. My eyes are literal footballs in shape. I have been told my focal point is all sorts of messed up. Have always had real bad starburst from a kid. Don’t get me started about getting high beamed

Will consult my optometrist about this though

I went and got glasses from my eye dr to fix this. I wish I did it sooner.

I only have that issue in my right eye so it was a quick and easy fix. My shooting scores drastically improved
 
Green is more 'visible' than a red sight per opticians. If shooting into foliage, I'd switch to red. I think 'red dots' are popular from seeing the 'red dot on the chest/forehead' in the movies.

If you have a similar refractive error condition in your eyes, you may have the same problem as the shape of your eye distorts the light. PS - I have #$50 Amazon red/greens on my range toys. I'd spend more if I was using one "Seriously". And in that article it states that 'green is more easily visible in daylight' - and Red is more visible in 'low-light conditions'.

I find a green dot is much easier for my eyes. I just picked up a Holosun HE510C-GR for my Beretta 1301. Does anyone know why green is more money ? Is it harder to produce ? It’s not a big difference, just wondering
 
As I got older, iron sights on my handguns became an issue. Couldn't focus on them unless I used my reading glasses but then the target was way out of focus. An optical red dot was the solution. Using the Apex Fusion 1X30. Problem solved.
