Astigmatism and Red Dots

Since you already "got an sig Romeo 5 and have an Astigmatism"............

Please follow me for a minute, my wife is ME in high level optics (above our paygrade) and I did some extensive testings with Romeo 5's and 7's also the Juliette 6 back couple years ago when I discovered same artifacts.

First you must know for sure you really have astigmatism?

Second, Sig had some issue in the past with glass coatings in their red dots and magnifiers.
The issue was a coating on the inner lens where the laser diode projects the dot.

You can test this with the red dot in front of your eyes. Hold in comfortable position and start rotating along the "horizontal" axis. Is the star burst shape rotates with the red dot? If yes...the problem is not with your eyes.
Second test, take your smart phone and make a picture of that red dot as sharp and clear you can do.
Do you see a little line on inside glass when you zoom in? That is a diode projecting the dot on the lens about 45 degree CCW from below right side.

Something like this (was my Romeo7 rd):

The camera lens doesn't know what is astigmatism.

Now, how to fix it - really doesn't matter if the problem is with you eyes or with the R5? It is simple but need some research.

Find fishing polarizing glasses, several or as many you can find, and test it yourself looking into that your R5 red dot.
The coating on these glasses possible to match to the coating on that internal lens coating.
One glasses will work better then the rest.
Wort to try ;)

CSC has there vortex demo sale on now. They have spitfire x3 gen 1 for $227, x3 gen 2 for $407 and x5 gen 2 for $487. I picked up a B grade Summit carbon II tripod and the only thing I could notice on it, is that a spotting scope was mounted at some point. Other than that, it was brand new. A grade will be as new

A cheap hack to "fix" the astigmatism burst seen on your romeo5 is to look through a buis rear peep first (co witnessed). Flip it up when you need higher accuracy, flip it down when you need wider fov. Narrows the light entering the eye so the perceived Starburst is reduced.

Hey I recently got an sig Romeo 5 and have an Astigmatism. It’s been working decently on a low setting anyway to reduce it further?

Ik a Holographic or prism is ideal. May end up getting an Eotech. The Romeo was cheap so I got it as an in between as my firearm didn’t come with any iron sights.

Let me know what you guys think or any budget optics 2-300 range that work better for you.

Thanks 🙏
Buy used?

Its what I did.

Picked up a couple vector prism sites.

A 1x and 3x

The 1x broke pretty quick but with a lifetime warranty I sent it back. While it was out on warranty I picked up the 3x.

Paid 300 for both.

My glasses help slightly when using a red dot but going with a prism it's crystal clear.

Glasses can only do so much for an astigmatism so definitely pick up a prism.

Oh also check out monstrum if you want a budget prism brand new. The reviews on them are surprisingly good. That was going to be my first choice but I ended up buying used.
