AT-15 Pistol Magazine

My ambi mag release is in the great beyond, probably in a box on a shelf until the great spirit of customs kicks it over the border.

I'll have to do some function tests when all my parts get together.

Shoot Rick an email about having to file the mags, they might be able to tweak the design for the next batch.

I called and spoke to Dustin when I did my mod. He said they were aware of it and wasn't really interested in me sending the pics I took. It's a pretty easy mod that likely doesn't need to be done for most firearms, so it probably doesn't call for a change in manufacturing.

After all that trouble.... why not just get these made in .50 beo?
Or at least 7.69x39.

Why .223?

The feeling I got when talking with ATRS is that they're making mags for firearms they manufacture in shop.

A .50beo AT-15 isn't ruled out, nor is a AT-15 .50beo pistol ruled out by the sounds of it ;).

Good things come to those that wait.

Check the back of the mag to see if the bolt is marring the polymer there. I modded mine to make inserting on a closed bolt easier.
On the left is an untouched AT-15 pistol mag, the one on the right has been filed to fit better.

That helped a little. I think mine is touching along the top edges too. I didn't have much time to fiddle with it tonight, but I'm going to put a bit of color (wax pencil or paint marker) in different places and figure out where the contact areas are.

Well what would have been left for you to criticize?

Perhaps an ATRS .50 AR is in the works, perhaps it is and I'm sure the mags will have been thought of well before.

I was in there today and asked. No plans currenty is what I was told. Double for a pistol version.

These are available as they are making a 223 pistol, and these are the mags for that specific pistol. A la LAR.

I trimmed one out square, however comparing the differences from it to the Pmag when inserted, shows that the follower on the AT is being pushed down? the follower on the Pmag doesn't move?
I'm not sure what's going on? It still won't seat on a closed bolt, and when it does with the bolt open, I can't close the bolt?

Just took a look with a different upper and with it off, it appears that the AT follower is pressing on the bolt release and won't let it disengage? whereas with the Pmag the follower doesn't move when the mag is inserted?

Strange. I only have 2 rifles that take stanag mags my DD and the Tavor and they insert on a closed bolt on both.

It might be that they specifically designed them to work with their own recievers.... I have 3 ATRS upper/lower combos and they work great in them. They however do not work in any of my other AR's (American Spirit side charger,STI or my shooting buddies JP).
Going to stipple the new mags today,...will post a pic later

I finally got them to work in my Oly Arms. I had to increase the length of the magazine catch notch by hoobling out some material towards the rear of the mag. The mag release wasn't quite fitting into the recess on the side of the mag.

Auggie D.

So much like others have suggested there is some slight tuning to do.
1) relieve the area at back of the magazine
2) some slight sanding on feed lips of mag. (bolt actually contacts them hard...not the carrier though)
3) slight adjustment in magazine catch area,....there is a noticable difference in the height in which the mag. sits in the reciever. ( I may try this first as it seems to be the common denominator between recievers)
These are all minor fixes IMO,
For those that remember....
These mags are also one of the reasons I did not move forward with my LAR extensions from 2 years ago. I seen this coming with the .458 and beowolf mags on the horizon. It would have been a huge cash layout for a very limited time in that people would actually want to purchase them.

For those that are concerned about fit in their rifle don't sweat it.... I can't tell how many mags including P-mags and GI mags have needed some tuning.
Mag tuning is normal.... fact is most are good but there is always 1 or 2 that need help.
At least we will not have to "F" with poorly installed rivets :)
