So, I was thinking today, I would actually like if my colt 6933 charging handle had a spring retract on it so it would automatically pull back into the receiver by itself, does anyone make a kit for this or the principal operation of it not allow such a thing.
I did a quick Google search and didn't find anything.
 
BCG will pull it in. Recoil spring is doing that.

Manual of arms is that you use bolt release on BHO, or pull the handle fully back and release, both accomplish the same thing.

The latch on the handle will keep it affixed to the receiver if for some reason you want to walk around with action open.
 
^^^true,,, but when I pull charging handle back on an empty mag I would like charging handle to go back into reciever instead of staying out... maybe I need to design something and market it

yes, you then push it forward and latch it in.

There is no space in the receiver for anything else. Charging handle is above the line of operation.

One of the reasons Stoner designed it that way is to keep the action sealed and maintain the strength of the upper. Chamber the round, put it on safe, flip the port cover up and you are golden.

Another little genius thing in the design is that exhaust openings in the BCG will blow any debris in the port out on the first shot before action cycles.

IMO, the only thing ARs do worse than piston guns is high volume auto-fire. In single fire AR bleeds the heat all over the receiver and dissipates it fast vs piston guns heating up like crazy in the forend area.

Stoner didn't design the charging handle as it is now, Jim Sullivan did.
 
Short answer... No, I have never seen anything like that.

I get where you are coming from, with the BCG locked back, the charging handle is kind of hanging out there and could be prone to snagging. It is also not the strongest part of the firearm and could be damaged if it were to be twisted sideways.
Having said that, the only time the BCG is locked back and the charging handle is unlatched is when you did it manually and have your hand on it. The solution is to train yourself to push the handle back in until it latches. Repetition doing it the right way is the answer to the situation the designers didn't think was a problem.

Exactly my line of thinking, it's not a big deal at all, just wondering if they made something for that... I will look more into designing my own if possible :)

Never heard of anything like that.
You could potentially build it if you designed a cavity just high enough for the CH to move above the bolt path.

This is going against how the rifle is supposed to function, it does exactly what you want with the bolt release held down, which is how the rifle would be meant to be used. The charging handle shooting back, even if integrated internally in some magic slick way - no one would want this because it would just make clearing the gun one step more confusing. This is indeed a fairly bubba tastic concept in both theory and potential execution. But good luck just the same.
 
The only time that one needs to manually pull the handle back and lock the bolt to the back is clearing weapon in an administration setting or IA with double feeding or failure to extract. If the handle is not pushed back it will be eventually when the bolt goes forward as part of either of the two scenarios.

I am not paying another 100 bucks to make this thing more complicated than it is already!
