- First batch from Lever was 1974 and cost $215 with bayonet.SNs were AD61___ era. Next batch was 1980. AD 69 and AD70s. Non-restricted until about.. what? 1984?
If the media was freaking then, we didn't hear about it. God Bless Alan Lever for providing FN rifles to the masses, and to Hell with the weenies who worry about too much of a good thing.

At least you got to buy one! I qualified with one in 1990, just as they were phasing them out, and by the time I got around to looking for one of my own, they were prohib. Sigh. I want one.
 
Oh man... I was issued an L1A1 back in '85 when I did an exchange with the Aussie Army. Still have the slouch hat. Great rifle. I remember the aussies being shocked when I had the rifle completely stripped after a big Jungle ex.
Best battle rifles ever.
 
Very nice rifle. I'm happy to see that you can own it legally. I have one as well, an Ishipore. Used to be able to bring it to a range years ago. In or around 1994, I got a letter stating that I could no longer bring it to a range, no explanation, just that it's range days were over. My other .308 rifles, like an M305, were fine to use, even to hunt with. Go figure.

I have a C1A1 1968 with OPP X'ed out. Amazing quality gun. Loved shooting it at the range until 2005. Also have a L1A1. Not as pretty, but great to shoot. Will never get rid of them. I won't weld them up. I keep praying and writing the PM to change our laws. I am dying to shoot my 12.5s again.
 
Handled those in the militia in the 60's. Knew I had to have one when I first shouldered it. No such luck.
 
Jealous as hell. Used these in my military days and would love to have one. A truely great rifle, accurate reliable easy to shoot, so long as you are right handed. But in Canada it is not permitted. Can't understand why semi auto are ok but not the L1A1. Mutter mutter.
