At what point am I just putting lipstick on a pig? Upgrading M&P vs high end AR

I have 2 DD and a DPMS. The DPMS is a safe queen, one of the DD’s is the go to. That being said, very little difference in terms of accuracy.

The m&p's are not pigs... they cost less because there are cheaper parts on them. The uppers and lowers are still quality parts.

And I disagree, faster double taps are due in large part to triggers and brakes. Technique plays a large role, but the average guy will shoot better with a better trigger and brake than with crappy ones.

Anyway, m&p's are not pigs.

Thanks for those posts FoxAlpha and Fastxr ... they really helped put things in perspective for me . I’m new to the AR thing and plan to shoot Tac Rifle matches locally this year for the first time and it’s good to know that going in with an entry level AR ( M&P15 ) is not going to be a handicap. I dressed my little pig up to suit my tastes but it’s all been ergonomics / aesthetics ( red dot notwithstanding ). I do wonder though if a better trigger and or muzzle break are going to net me perceivable gains ? Faster double taps being the area of concern.
Doesn't matter what you put on that M&P Trailskinpat ,,,,,I'm still gonna kick yer ass with my Norinco :)

Bear in mind if you’re balancing budget for upgrades - shooting Tac matches will probably take some extra gear too. Don’t blow your $300 to replace a perfectly useful trigger then show up with inadequate gear for the match.

I still have my first AR, a DA 556, sort of. First I replaced the lower with a Colt Canada one, then I found a colt upper, then a good deal on a PSA premium bolt and BCG, then a sale on some magpul and other stuff, then a trigger and better buffer, low pro gasblock, all on sale. Selling or using the parts removed along the way. All I have left is the barrel, and still have a relatively cheap krink device on it, but now it’s cerakoted to the colour I wanted, shoots very well, is light, looks bad-ass. If I ever get to where there is a real improvement to be had by upgrading the barrel then I’ll do it, but that light weight chrome lined Chinese one keeps working and working good. So, lipstick on a pig? For sure, it started life as a rebranded nork, now it’s a pretty nice unit in every way and at no time during the build was it incomplete for more than a few hours or so.
