ATF Trying To Ban AR-15 Ammo

'if' that ammo was to be banned in the states,then the manufacturer has an open market
here in canada.they will have to move what stock they have.

let the ATF do what they want......

They will prohibit the export with ITAR rules. Remember we are dealing with left wing wackos here.

The article is BS...so what if they ban the bullet? It is designed to be armor piercing (see below) so the article is wrong not the ATF. The bullet's not steel tipped it has a steel penetrator as part of the core (at least the original design), and since it can be fired from a "handgun" it looks like they are technically illegal. They will just replace it with a 62 copper/lead bullet if they enforce the existing laws. The bullet was designed to penetrate a steel helmet at 600 m with an M-16A2 if I'm not mistaken. Three part bullet doesn't make for a great one in my mind, I'd be happy with something like the Speer 62 gr FMJBT or similar as a replacement.

Can anyone explain why this ammo is getting banned? Pierces a higher grade of armour compared to the regular stuff???

Quickly summed up it has to do with US law regulating pistol ammo for armour penetration. Even though from a rifle it has been clear for a while that XM855 / SS109 isn't designed to be an AP round and is considered a sporting cartridge. Since the availability of 5.56 pistols is pretty common these days this may bite the US in the ass.

Clear as mud right?

EDIT* Here's another thread for you to check out on the topic;

It wouldn't surprise me that someone is trying to get at the gun community any way they can.
I saw something on a site which said the ATF is trying to ban Russian 5.45 ammo because they have steel penetrators.
They are referring to them as armour piercing.
