I know many of you have one of these or a Garmin… I was late to the game, I struggled with an old Caldwell unit for quite a few years. These new chronographs are a huge improvement and such a game changer… new tech is great. If you don’t have one yet…. You are missing out. The convenience factor is huge.

Yes, they work so well, and so simple. It even works surprisingly well with crossbow speeds. I don't link mine to the app though, I write down all my data. I've heard of people having issues with the app?🤷🏻‍♂️
 
The Rangecraft is a good bit of kit, but mine has been unreliable. Not in terms of velocity, or tracking shots - for that aspect it's fantastic and reliable. Arguable that's all it needs to be.

Occasionally though, it looses shot sessions, or I show up at home only to have a bunch of shot sessions with 0 shots. In this latter state, the device needs to be wiped to be usable. I just updated the firmware, but the firmware it has previously (which itself I had updated from when I purchased it) seemed to have a bug if you hit the 50 session limit and didn't notice, wiping all existing sessions out.

Also, there was no warning on the firmware update it would wipe stored data. It's the little UX things that set it apart from its more expensive peers.

I found the app experience lacking so I started working on my own; but Athlon's app isn't completely useless. You can bulk export shot sessions into Excel / Google Sheets / Calc for processing if that's your thing.

But, for a chrono at the range, it's dead simple, and works very well, even in extremely cold weather.
 
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the Labrador, Garmin and Athlon all have internal batteries that aren’t replaceable?

If a company wanted to get the edge on this newer tech they would make a unit that you can at least change the batteries in

It is a great idea but for an old fart like me it would be another thing I would forget to pack for the range just like staples LOL

Labradar batteries are AA and easy to replace. Most folks run an external rechargeable battery pack. There is an internal coin battery on the motherboard board than can be replaced should it fail. The procedure is outlined on the CGN forum thanks to a member…

The Garmin Xero C1 battery was originally said to be non replaceable, however replacement batteries are available from Amazon for around $20.
Lots of tutorials out there … basically a plug and play.

Not sure about Athlon , but probably similar to the Garmin battery system.IMG_6282.jpeg

The Rangecraft App sucks to the enth degree. Obviously done up by some computer Geek....:(:oops:

The actual Rangecraft Chronograph is sweet. Works very well, reset time is extremely quick, and easy to navigate....:)

Less money than the original Garmin, and better in my opinion......:)

The above applies to the Labradar V1 which is deprecated and as far as I can tell no longer made. Used, they are a bargain as long as someone is willing to aim the unit carefully.

The Labradar LX is the currently model, it has internal, non-user-replaceable batteries. It works first time every time and is reliable at indoor ranges with metallic baffles and lots of other shooters. Also, it will show BC as well as velocity. The app works well.

I'm testing the latest beta firmware / app. Better than ever, and the company is listening to my feedback.
