Hi,

Does anybody have an Athlon Ares ETR 4.5 -30 x 56 and a Midas Tac HD 5-25x 56

My Midas has a nice fine reticle while my Ares has much heavier lines. Online subtension specs are the same, yet visually much different

If anyone else has these two and can comment, I would appreciate it.

Both scopes set at 25 power for the pics

I had both at one time. What are you asking? The Ares is thicker because it's illuminated I'd assume. Subtensions are the same.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm that the Ares does indeed have a thicker reticle and that I did not have something unusual with mine. I prefer the thinner reticle of the Midas and expected the Ares to be the same since the subtension specs are the same between the two.

On a properly executed reticle design drawing that is available on the information page of a scope, the line thickness is one of the dimensions listed.

Yes, but the specs of each on Athlon's site show the same specs, which leads to my question on why the difference. Seems laker415 had the same experience.

You're right, both lines rated at 0.03, strange.
Did you try to play with the eyepiece focus? Your
Midas reticle seems much sharper.

i think this might be your issue.
When i was adjusting the focus on my scope, they recommended aiming at a nearby white background and adjusting eyepiece until reticle was focused. I noticed that it would become thicker/thinner as i adjusted in or out.
