Hey Guys, I Just got my Winchester Defender from msarazin (Thanks for the Great Transaction) and I'm thinking about buying an ATI Top Folding Stock for it. http://www.atigunstocks.com/product-winchester.html

Questions: Anyone own one of these? What is the Quality Like? I've heard it's pretty good but I'd like confirmation from the community I trust. The only other thing I'm wondering is what the Recoil is going to be like from that Butt-plate? It "Looks" like a Piece of Hard plastic or metal with a Small Surface area. This May not Agree with my Less than Robotic Human Traits, like Nerves and Flesh and stuff. Anyone have First Hand Experience?

Thanks a Tonn!

I also have not purchased one, but from lookin at them and handling them in the shops, they give me the impression of cheap junk. I might be wrong, but I will not bet my money to find out.

Hmmmmm Not What I'm wanting to hear :( But thats better than gettin Screwed! I thought they looked pretty good and they have a Lifetime Warranty.

Can Anyone Recomend a Good Quality Top-Folding Stock?

I have one of the ATI topfolders. It needed a little work around the lock-button hole with a rotary file to lock down in the closed position. Some of the edges also needed to be smoothed out with sandpaper where there was flashing from the molds. During shooting, it certainly was an improvement over the side folder (which I also have one), but, it is sharp edged in lots of places and it will bite your face occassionally when shooting heavy loads.

This is the fourth folding stock that I have tried on an 870, and I can't really recommend any of them.

The buttstock wasn't cozy to shoot with. I found the pistol grip tooo small. I expect it would break after a few hundred rounds. ATI isn't that good, I had a ATI mauser stock I ended up just tossing in the garbage.

I would get the knoxx copstock.

Here it all is in detail.

In this illustration, we see the ATI folding stock laid up along side the Remington 870 HD factory stocks:

And here you have them lined up side to side to see thickness:

First thing I dislike about these stocks - they are bloody near twice the thickness of the origional reciever. Makes them quite hard to manuver quickly.

And that leads to another gripe. The polymer folding stock is made so thick to withstand heavy abuse, but at the point of lock:

There is only a little more than 1/16" of material bearing on the lock-stud.

And when it is locked down, there is still as much as 1/8" up and down movement in the mechanism even just wiggling it with your hands. This is not a fault of ATI stocks alone, but folders in general and I'll tell you that the ATI is far from the worst.

Now for the final complaint. I had to work on this area:

With a rotary file to get the folder to lock down on top of the shottie.

That wouldn't have meant so much if the gun wasn't so damned painfull to fire. But let me tell you, that 1/8" of wiggle translates into a hell of a cut on the cheek if you haven't smoothed it all out.

It might be ok if I was shooting 9mm rounds out of it, but not regular 12g.

Definately cannot recommend this stock.
