Anyone running this combo on their T3? My T3 has the 5 round mags and they work great. The polymer mags feed so silky smooth, I hate to change them out but some of the matches we run require 10 round strings and I hate doing mag changes mid stream. I am wondering how the Atlasworx bottom metal and AICS mags work, are they as smooth as the Tikka polymer mags? Was the upgrade worth the price? My rifle is working pretty slick right now that I hate to mess with it. Thanks.

I went ahead and installed a CDI bottom metal that takes AI mags. The AI mags feed very nicely and allow you a longer OAL for your reloads. The stock will take some inleting and the AI mags will need some filling done on the outer edges of the feed lips to allow them to fit into the action properly (the bottom of the action is too narrow to fit the AI mags as is, so you have a choice, mil the action or file the mag). Mine feeds just fine. I'm pretty sure Mystic carries the CDI.

Do it. I have atlasworxs metal in my GRS stocked T3.

The mags feed just as smooth as the stockers. You do need to file the outside of the feedlips slightly to get them to seat up high enough. Alternatively you can mill the receiver.

Either way - 10 round magazines are awesome.

All great information and I am learning
From you Tikka dudes. Whenever I win the lottery I love how tikka makes a hvy bbled .260 for LR fun so I will be searching for this information.

Cheers, Barney

Thanks canucklehead, my T3 is sitting a GRS right now too. Love the stock, I seem to prefer the laminate over the more common composites. Going to order the Atlasworks very soon, just need to find mags now.

Go for it Barney! You will NOT regret it. Just swap out the aluminum recoil lug for a stainless version from Lumley Arms for $29 and have at 'er. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the T3 CTR in 308, can't seem to get enough of the Tikka goodness.

I bought all my mags from MDT. Good price and quick shipping! Filing them down is a bit of trial and error but once its done you'll be glad you switched.

Biggest benefit is the ability to load heavier bullets and have much greater OAL than the stock mags.

For the 260 you can just get 30-06 length mags and file the bolt stop to allow the bolt to go back far enough to pick up the rounds if you find your looking for more oal.

I went with the Lumley Arms bottom metal. It was really easy to install.

I don't think that the AICS mags feed as smoothly as the plastic tikka ones but its still really decent.

Great looking Rig!
How much wood did you have to remove inletting for the bottom metal?

You have to remove quite a bit of material around the mag well. The AICS mags take up pretty well the full width of the factory bottom metal outline.

With the Lumley bottom metal you don’t have to touch the outline of the old bottom metal. You only have to open up the mag well.

It only took me about an hour with a die grinder to open up the stock. I should have taken my time a bit more to make it look nicer but it’s all hidden anyways.

In the pics you can see the step in the factory inletting (in the tikka lite stock. top) you have you remove this to allow the wider mag well.

Thanks for the pictures. Going to order some bottom metal very soon. Just have to decide if I go Atlasworx or Lumley. I have the Lumley stainless steel recoil lug, and the Atlasworx bolt handle and bolt shroud. Like them both, flip a coin I guess.
