Hi !

I look to buy a night vision monocular for outdoors activities and camping.
Wolverine offer the ATN products, what do you think about it ??

250 -350 $ price range ...

this one, ATN DNVM-4 Digital Nightvision Monocular 4x Colour at 269 $ look interesting

If you have any comments or suggestions (other brand / model) you're welcome !

thanks !

If you want some alternatives, look at Scout Basecamp. They're a business member on here, they've got some cool stuff.

I looked at some Youtube videos on these type of products. It seemed like the OP on you tube was in a city park where there is lamps or some kind of lighting. The product seemed to work, but it would have been a better test if it was done in an area that had no street lights. Maybe there are better videos then the ones I saw, and the product (at the minimum) might be fine for early morning and late day/evening applications. If you obtain an ATN night vision item, let us know how it works for you.

I've been looking at that one for a while too... It is low on my list and maybe I'm waiting for a sale?? not likely....

I like the idea of digital vs. tube. THis one takes a CR123 battery, which is pretty common, but I'd like to try one that takes AAs because they are easy to recharge (though I know that you can get CR123 batteries in rechargeable format...)

We carry a large offering from Armasight.

It's found here on the website.

In the $200 to $250 price range we have the Prime 3x mag. and the Prime 5x mag. Both of these are Gen1 and quite effective.

Between the $470 and $550 we can provide binoculars, scopes and monoculars with a few other features.

Once you jump up to the $1700+ range we can provide you with Gen 2 which step up the performance quite a bit.

We also have some of the new Matbock Tarsier Eclipse accessory pieces coming soon. These allow the operator to see objects from 18" to infinity at the same time and without lost of clarity. The keeps the user from having to change the focus on the NV unit if you suddenly look from 10' to 100'.

These are available for the PVS 7 and 14/ NYX 7 and 14 (from Armasight)

This was taken through the Gen 2 rifle scope with my Blackberry. I'll get some more once the camera adaptor gets here :D

The Primes take CR123's

We have the rechargable CR123's in stock as well as the regular ones in a 2 pack for $9.99

Only if you have your rifle uncased at night.

I ask because in Quebec even if your rifle is in the case in the trunk and you are having a high powered light, there is presumption that you could be looking to jack hunting, they may confiscate the light... JP.

Don't get caught looking in the neighbour's windows. snicker.
"...in your backpack while deer hunting..." Likely be a presumption that you're planning in hunting at night.
"...they may confiscate the light..." And everything else you have with you.

Thanks for the info Farmboy !

I'm interested by the prime 5x, what's the effective range of view with this model (distance) ?

and do you have a picture from what I can expect from a Gen 1 night vision (visibility / image quality) ?

Thanks !

Not sure off hand however we've used them at 200yds easily.

. and what's the advantage to put an IR810 on it

Not much. It already has a built in illuminator. Helps in pitch blackness over longer distances though.

I've looked through Gen 1 NV devices and found them blurry and not that great, so I skipped them completely and went right to Gen 2+ which is far superior. I know that they are an order of magnitude more expensive, but I personally think it is worth it.
