ATRS ACCU-MAXX™ Reloading Press

My 93 y.o. Dad has this saying: "A fool and his money are soon parted..." He is qualified to say this as he was a Chartered Account for many decades.

I agree with Eagleye Dave, although I'd recommend buying 6 x Lee Classic Cast Presses and have enough left over for a case 'o beer - ALL STEEL and only $170 each from Cabelas

OR

Buy 2 x Lee Reloading Kits for 50 BMG - one for each hand as they can be setup for normal people or those weirdo lefties (like me) You'll have $187 left over for several cases of brewski or whatever turns your crank!...

$444 per kit from Higginsons which includes:
"Includes Classic Cast Press that accepts both 7/8x14 and 1 1/4x12 thread dies, 50 BMG 2-die set, Shell Holder, Ram Prime and Case Lube"

I'm sorry, but $1,075.00 for just the press is excessive imho

That only does 50bmg I would like a press that does everything I don't even shoot 50bmg yet I'm just looking to the future and I'm tired of my tiny press it's really hard to load 338 Lapua on.

It does everything, comes with adapter for the smaller dies, only extra piece needed is a shell holder adapter.

The classic cast can reload 50bmg, but there are some "quirks" involved with the seating process. You have to stick a bullet up in the seating die and hold it there, then slide your charged case in and kinda angle and wiggle it to get the case in under the bullet. The stroke is only 4.5" compared to 6.5" on the Hornady. The Hornady will let you seat a 750gr bullet on the brass before seating with a little room to spare.

This is just getting crazy basically 5 pages of crap and maybe 3 posts from people who have actually used the press before. I wonder how many people on here that are telling me not to waste money smoke or drink or do drugs everyone wastes money in there own way. If I wanted advice on my finances I would have asked. I just asked if it was a good press or not and by the two people that have used it it seems like an awesome press.

it would be even better with a footswitch activated hydraulic ram and a limit switch on top.

I know I chimed in with surprise about how much it was worth. Maybe I started the haters on their posting. For that I apoligize.

But Ryan, haters gonna hate. I just can't believe how many haters there are of ATRS. My opinion is, if you don't like them or their price point, move on and shut up. But that aint gonna happen. So I ignore the haters and make my own decisions. Just look what happened when you did your review of the Amp annealer. Maybe it's just jealousy (?).

At least Darryl (dmay) chimed in on his. I'd heed his advice.

Awesome! It would not take much. I was thinking of a ststem similar to the MEC shotshell loader. It would add 400.00 or so but well worth it :)

Also looking to produce shell holders specific for our press similar to the 50 BMG shell holders we already make but for smaller calibers. I am not a fan of generic shell holders and adapters thinking the more stuff you fit together the more tolerances get added to the equation. these would also fit the RCBS and Hornady presses.

So many plans, so little time:(

7075 is prone to stress cracking, which is why it is not used on Aircraft. 416 SS is nowhere as strong or abrasion resistant as chrome plated heat treated 4140, or carburized Thompson shafting. I really question the selection of materials for this press.

Pardon?

Dude, I spent a very large part of my life as an aircraft metalworker, and I can tell you with certainty, that 7075 is used a LOT on aircraft. Sheet metal, forgings, and parts machined from bar stock.

ALL aluminum is subject to stress cracking. It's what aluminum does.

7075 is prone to corrosion, as Zinc is a major alloy element in 70xx series alloys, if not adequately protected from the elements, and esp. if it is in contact with other materials (like the steel in bolts) in the presence of moisture. Corrosion control is a very real part of aircraft maintenance!

So, either you have no clue of which you speak with such authority, or you are parroting someone less informed than yourself.

Cheers
Trev
