ATRS AR Gen 3 Rifle Build

Beautiful... as for optic's, youve gone 100% Canadian to this point, so why stop now?

3) There seems little point in having a magpul ASAP and then adding a rail-mounted front sling hook - the whole point behind the ASAP is for a single-point sling.

The idea behind the MS2 is to be able to switch between a single point and two point sling.

What is the perceived role for this carbine? Everyone's tossing out ideas for stuff to add...what is it's intended role? With that info then you can generate some productive commentary.

Personally, I'll invest in a sling and weapons light before any other upgrades to a carbine.

Edit: Who makes that front sling loop? Right now I'm using a dremelled out Dieter CQD but what you have looks closer to what I need.

Sorry for the delay in getting back on here.
The intended purpose is for 3 gun matches.
The optic I'm leaning toward is the nightforce
2.5-10
Build was around 3000, keep in mind I spared
No expense with this build.

Bolts

Thanks all for the advice on the optics and the overall build. I'll post a range report as soon as I can. Hopefully try it out this weekend.

You appear to be missing the middle mounting bolton the DD forend. I assume the bolt on the other side is missing as well cause of the billet upper? Which means that 1/3 of the forend bolts are not where they are supposed to be.

Thanks Suputin! I had the bolts, they're installed now. I was a little quick to snap the pictures of the new toy with the new rail installed. Your good eye and helpful advice are always appreciated.

The nxs 2.5x10 is overkill for a 3 gun machine. I'd suggest a 1x4 power if you want to go with a variable.
An acog is a good choice for a fixed power scope, but you need to spend some time and training with the bindon concept at close range for it to work well. Others have binned the bindon (get it?) at close range by adding an offset cant mount and a red dot.
The elcan might do (sorry, no personal experience) but they are rather heavy.
This could be splitting hairs, so worth looking into one.
Another option is to go simply with a red dot and get comfortable with your drops at distance. You'd be accepting a degradation at range, but it is stupid simple, and the best at short range where it is likely most of the rounds end up anyhow....

Greggy, why didn't you say it was you? You really should be open about shilling for a company you work for. Otherwise people might get the wrong idea you are a unconnected party. IF you paid $3000 for that WITH your employee discount then you got ripped off bigtime.

Glad to help out though. :)

^^ Hopefully that doesn't "de-rail" :D an interesting thread. Cheesy puns aside, nice rifle, but just wondering why you went with the plastic Magpul BUIS? I've heard that over torqueing these plastic BUIS can lead to problems and that they are not recommended, for example, for picatinny railed gas blocks due to overheating concerns?

I can see from your pictures that your lower also suffers from an inconsistent finish from media blasting, one of three of my only complaints about my ATRS lower. Once I finish my build I'll go into more details but otherwise a very beautiful piece of hardware and I'm glad to have one!
