To start, I think that I like my Modern Varmint more each and every time I shoot the thing, and today is no exception! The thing is just a dream, and hadn't been feeling the love lately, as it has just been riding in the sprayer with me. So today, once the field work was done I decided to finally try out my 24" gong from Range Rabbit. After building a quick and dirty stand, out to the field I went! Did a quick zero confirmation on my freshly mounted ACOG, and then had at it with my oh-so-accurate PMC Bronze 55gr FMJ-BT.

I decided to go big, so the first salvo of rounds was launched from 570 metres. I had a ~10 km/h wind at about 50 degrees to me, and the target being 24" @ 570m is about 3.6 moa. Being a mediocre shooter, I did not expect a whole lot, particularly using Kentucky windage for the horizontal adjustment. I was quite surprised and happy to hear the gong ring for 8/20! Also it turns out the TA31 chevron reticle is reasonably calibrated to my rifle and round. Good to know.

So, feeling quite confident, I backed er up to 770 metres for my second salvo of indirect fire at my now 2.7 moa target. After 20 shots, and not hearing a single ring of the gong, I figured I should go check it out. I mean, with those mad sniper skillz, surely I had to have hit it. And I did! A whopping 4/20 lightly scratched the paint, so that was pretty awesome.

After that I moved on to shoot standing at smaller steel, also from Range Rabbit. As a point of pride, I did NOT shoot out a chain while shooting long range... only while sighting in :runaway:

All in all, going 12/40 at long range left this shooter in a pretty good mood, though in retrospect that does sound a lot worse than it felt at the time :sniper: I'm sure many of you would have heard freedom ring a few more times than I did, but oh well, I'm happy. So, who else got out today?

Oh, and here is my show of an ATRS and gong:

P.S. to all the farmers out there, that ###y Certified Faller wheat seed in the background will be for sale next spring... you know you want it!

I managed to get out into the forest south of GP for a few hours.

The only person you need to please, is yourself. Sounds like you nailed that. Keep on enjoying!

I was out on Saturday to Rocky gun club with my MV and was able to get repeated hits on the steel at 300, 400, 500 and 600 meters. These guns are just too much fun.

very nice, I picked up a range rabbit gong at the Calgary gun show and put it through its paces with my VZ, lots of fun

I think I missed your post. Bartok had an... interesting (?) one.

But yeah, I'm a fanboi of ATRS; not so much of censoring anti ATRS posts though. I supposed that's how it goes on private property, though.

Apparently I started it all with my post. I'd repeat it but it would only get censored again, I'd be warned/pinked and the truth would only be known in SE Asia.

Why do all the threads about ATRS products turn into a "gong show"? (pun intended). A guy posts about a product that he is happy with and the enjoyment he is having and it turns into a $hit show every time. But I guess there is always miserable people out there that can't seem to get the burr out of their a$$. Maybe there is a reason they have the burr up their a$$ but I couldn't care less. A company offers us a product that no other company does and had to put a lot of time and effort into doing so. Who gives a $hit where they came up with their ideas for the design. Yes there are similarities to other people's design but there are also a lot of differences they had to incorporate into it. A big part of what was required to pull this off was done by them. Have the most of the people doing the yapping had first hand experience with the product to even know what they are yapping about? I think not. Most of the haters are just jealous and envious of someone else's success.

Only on CGN, can this.......

Get to this, in such a short time.

No one any longer has an intellectual property claim to the AR15 design, so the comparison is completely moot. Eugene Stoner and his design partner George Sullivan are both dead. You can, however, bet that Colt vigorously and thoroughly defended it's patents and ownership of the AR15 Technical Data package while those patents were still protected under US law. The ATRS "design" in question is blatant intellectual theft, and no amount of fanboi cheerleading or ham-fisted moderator censorship will change that fact. Want to give that company your business? Fill your boots. But don't pretend for a second that everything they do (or personally claim to be) is above board, because it clearly isn't. The wild claims of combat service abroad are a running joke among those in the know on this site and no amount of a "hush campaign" is going to make that self-inflicted wound go away any time soon. Some of us here do take justifiable offense to stolen valour rather than try to sweep it under the carpet....

Truth to power. Standing by for my infraction in 3, 2, 1....

What's wrong with just swinging with the mood of the OP? He's happy, so time to crap in his cornflakes? Another awesome CGN thread. BTW, OP, hope you still got that same satisfied feeling, and that this thread hasn't killed that.

Judging by the OP'S happiness and enthusiasm with his new firearm I would say that it is a reflection of his happiness and enthusiasm within his life as a whole. I don't think someone like him will let a few people that are obviously miserable with their own life spoil his fun. If anything it will boost his enjoyment in life knowing that he is not like them.
OP, ignore the BS. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the fun you are having with your new rifle
