ATRS Modern Sporter - Nov 30th : New video, Post 482

Curious, does ATRS check things like bolt catch roll pin hole diameter before shipping receivers out to eliminate issues like Maccabee has run into?

We run every part through several QC processes, so "try" to catch any issues before they go out the door. We are however mostly human so occassionally things do get out that should not have, in these rare cases we do everything possible to make it right.

First up we have: a Lantac BCG, elfman push button safety, Battle Arms Development grip, Geisselle trigger, CMC Anti-walk trigger pins, V7 titanium grip screw - All fit no problems at all.

We did discover that the hole in an A2 grip is slightly more forgiving than that found in the BAD, Ergo, Magpul, etc. grips. The spring was binding a little in these making the safety quite stiff.
Our solution: every receiver made so far is getting a free upgrade to a captured safety spring with a ball bearing detent as is found standard on our Modern Varmints / Hunters.
(set screw/bearing included spring sold seperately, or trim yours)

Next up: Battle Arms Development Handguard and faxxon flame fluted barrel, fit no problem at all.
Strike Industries Ultimate dust cover (plastic) fit, but very tight to close against the shell deflector and wants to pop open.
Our solution: The uppers are being adjusted to shift the shell deflector back approximately 0.010" to allow better clearance.

LAW tactical folder stock adapter fit without issue. Buffer tubes also fit without issue.

Knights armament ambi mag release - fits and functions ***however the big ugly button that they want to use on the front, does not fit.

The Odin works enlarged mag released does not fit on receivers serial numbered 1-100. Modifications are being made to all future receivers (anything not anodized already) to enlarge the space above the mag release slightly. Another brand that is slipping my mind DOES fit, either magpul or BAD? I'll get further details on that.

Phase 5 fits and functions fine. The Geissele maritime bolt catch DID NOT fit the pocket in the upper receiver. But it fit fine in the lower.

Our solution: We're going to enlarge the pocket on the upper to provide clearance.

BAD bolt catch functions fine. Troy ambi mag release functions fine.

The ATRS is a nice looking receiver set that is for sure. The billet is much beefier the a forged but that is to be expected.

The battle arms magazine button works well and is similar to the Odin.

The handguard is a 17” battlearms rigid rail

The elftmann safety is a unique and uncommon part. If the detent ball won’t work, it’s definitely not the end of the world since most people are more comfortable with a rotary safety anyways.
A traditional ambi safety was also tried and worked great

I have the Strike Industries dust cover, Magpul mag button, and the Maritime bolt catch lol. Glad to hear that things are being adjusted.

What no picture of a dremel and a hammer with a caption “ custom tuning may be required for part fitment “ . You guys are awesome . Thank you for taking the time trying parts and posting results .

Thanks guys this is great QC and info for parts compatibility.

Will you be test fitting any additional handguards? What about handguards with anti-rotation tabs?

Anti rotation tabs will require fitting on an individual basis. If you have another handguard you would like to try, you're more than welcome to come by the shop and we can test fit it, that's an open offer.

On another note: Those odd "latch-less" charging handles, will not work as the 'drop-hole' for the charging handle is in a slightly different location.

Norgon mag catches should be ok?

I like the sans dust cover look with the slick side upper. There's one less part to bother buying, since I don't play in the mud anyway.

I have found that the SI dust cover does not work well with that Lantac bolt as the material holding the detent in the dust cover is thicker than the metal ones and the Lantac bolt is shallower than most bolts in the same area (where the relief is for the dust cover detent). This could be a contributing factor to the tester dust cover wanting to “pop open”.

I haven't personally handled it with the Norgon mag catch, but what I'm hearing is that they should be just fine. One of the pictures if I'm not mistaken has a Norgon in it, and there was a little bit of difficulty with the left side dropping but I believe it may have just been a little over-tightened. I'll try to confirm these results myself if I ever get finished with all of this paperwork.

Just to clarify, going forward there should be no issue with Magpul grips?

No, the grips never had an issue. The only issue was the safety spring binding up. We're undecided if we'll continue to provide the captured safety upgrade going forward, or if that will only apply for the first run.

Lot of potential here it seems

I can't be assed to read 41 pages but from the skimming I did do the upper/lower set is $975, classification is yet to be determined but will most likely be non restricted (assuming a barrel over 18.5" is used) and almost all AR parts fit - correct?

Whats the lead time like if a guy were to take the plunge at this point?
