ATRS Savage MkII magazine release issue

So I bought one of the ATRS magazine releases for the Savage Mark II, but I'm having issues with the install. Long story short, it doesn't work!

It seems that when I torque down the front action screw the mag release/bottom plate is contacting the magazine well and friction is preventing the new mag release from moving. If I have the screw finger tight it works oK but any amount of real torque on the screw and everything binds up.

Rifle in question is one of the ones with the factory boyds thumb hole stock.

Has anyone run into his issue? If so, how did you fix it?

I don't have one, but why not just give ATRS a call?

On mine the magwell fits down into it slightly. And is butter smooth.

Edit to add. You’re not leaving the old bottom metal between are you ?
