Just wondering. I have a pistol, but have not had a chance to shoot it yet, do to my lack of funds to pay for a gun club membership. I would like to shoot it very much, and was wondering if this scenario (below) is possible and legal:

Find someone in Ottawa with an ATT, who shoots at the stittsville range (open air, no gun club membership I don't think). Have them come to my house, and I "lend them" the pistol on paper (so copy of reg, and a written note of permission/consent, if I am correct? - feel free to correct me on the process).

Then, I go WITH them in their car, to the range, and shoot MY gun at the range under THEIR supervision, as though it were their gun/they were borrowing it without me being there.

Is this a possible scenario, or will I get into trouble doing this?

Just curious. And also, if it IS legal...... any takers? haha

You are allowed to use/borrow/loan a restricted under the authority of your RPAL.

They are allowed to use/borrow/loan a restricted under the authority of their RPAL.

The only matter up in the air is transport. If they have an ATT that allows them to transport ANY restricted firearm under the authority of that ATT to and from those locations than you are good to go.

Problem is, I don't think their ATT allows them to transport a restricted FROM your house.

In other words, you need an ATT from your house to theirs. If you get a short term ATT from your house to theirs and they store it for you then you can repeat the process (to/from the range and their house or other location(s) listed on their ATT) w/o a long term ATT as long as they are the one transporting the restricted.

talk to the range about monthly payment plans - I'm sure they would be willing to work with you. Have them produce your LATT for you.

In a rare chance - haveyour friend email you to invite you to a range practice day. call the CFO - while on the phone, ask for their email. They may, maybe, possibly, with little scarce chance, provide you with a short ATT for that day.

Otherwise - wait for your LATT

How did you get the pistol transferred to your name and get it home without having a range membership??? CFO won't issue any ATTs without proof of membership.

They (ON CFO) will issue a STATT to get the pistol home. Once you get it there though it's stuck at home until you get a LTATT through the club.

I do not know about getting STATT's to get a pistol from home to a club though.

What about joining a paper only gun club. Silvercore in Surrey is considered a gun club for the purposes of getting your LTATT. Also if you're a member of IPSC you can get an LTATT.

Not sure if there are any other "gun clubs" like Silvercore. And I'm sure ON CFO won't issue him a LTATT if he tells CFO that he's in Silvercore.

In order for you to "lend" someone your restricted they must FIRST get a short term ATT to pick it up from you then they can take you and your pistol to the range. I know this is a stupid law but it is the way it is. There is no other leagal way around it.

Hmmm. Are you guys saying there are "non-shooting" gun clubs that folks can get LTATT's to bring their guns to a common area to fondle.

Once having said ATT they can go to a "real gun club with a shooting range" on an adhoc basis.
