Another newbie question....

Who issues you the temp ATT when you need to transport a newly purchased gun from the store home, your club or the dealer?

What if you buy one privately and have it mailed to you?

Thanks!

Usually the buyer asks for the att, if he is picking it up.
When you get it sent by mail, the seller asks for the att to take it to the Post Office.Once it is in the mail it becomes a PACKAGE,till you get it home.

For mailing: I just purchased a restricted from out of Province, and after the CFP stuff was done, the file goes to the CFO - the CFO issues an ATT to the Seller to take it to the PO, and an ATT to the buyer to pick it up.

That's all hypothetical... been three weeks of waiting for CFO to release it...

I may be mistaken. But for mailing a restricted firearm, the only ATT needed is for the seller-to-post office trip. Once the package is in the mail, it is a federal offense for anyone other than the recipient to tamper with it. As long as the recipient opens the package in the household that the RCMP has on file, the buyer shouldn't need an ATT.

For business/private sales in my experience, the RCMP issues a temporary ATT in conjunction with the registration transfer. This temporary document allows the buyer to transport the firearm from the seller's location ONCE.

In ON, a transfer authorization comes with an automatic 30 day ATT for seller and for buyer.
Anyway, it is the CFO who issues the ATT.

Just got off the phone with the CFC as i'm doing the exact same thing. They said if i'm home to sign for it, no ATT. If I am not home and have to pick it up from the post office, call with my reference number and they will issue the ATT, at that time they will issue an ATT for my for the range I belong to as well.

Thats in Alberta.

Ryan.
