hey i cant find any info on this but i just ordered an norinco m4 and the hand guard has holes on the bottom. is it possible to install a rail, say a ncstar on the original handguard via the holes and then attach a foregrip. i dont really want to buy a new handguard becuase the only thing i want to put on is a foregrip. if this is possible please dirrect me to maybe pics and products as i am turning up a blank, thanks

Yes you can buy a rail that will attach to the handgaurd.
However the norinco hangaurd is not reinforced with aluminum.
it is just plastic.

i've attached a rail to my stock handguards... it's not bad, fairly stable for the way I shoot. I've stuck on a Magpul RVG and a AVG for testing, and both felt pretty solid. Got my CAA rail kit from Fabsports, not sure if they still carry it, but OST has the Cadex version for 32$ (I think)....

Note, if you do purchase the Magpul RVG, it comes with a small rail piece, which works just as good as a small rail kit.

Had one of the little add on rails on a C7 handguard for a while. Pretty sure it was a brownells with a KAC VFG on it.

It only came loose very early on in the tour after a 1000+ rounds on a range, talked to the Veh Techs and scored some blue loc tite onto it, and it never shifted again, so much so that its probably still on that rifle 7 years later, as I couldnt get it off at the end of tour with my gerber.

It went through at least another 8000rds, and 6 moths of being knocked around and abused and stayed put. So yeah, make sure you have it set where you want it on the HG, loc tite the crap out of it, and you'll be fine probably.

To answer your second question, no it didnt feel secure, because the stock handguards have a bit of wiggle, so anything mounted on it will also wiggle a bit.
The KAC HG on subsequent tours and my personal AR fixed the #### out of that little problem though.

Yea that's a good point, I forgot that I had loc-tite'd mine too... it feels secure to the handguard, but not too the rifle, as goFaster stated, the hanguards do have some play... in all honesty your best bet is replacing your handguards, DD ez car and omega kits can be had for relatively inexpensive... and they're really sturdy...

Mine was?

My buddy rob gave me a rail, I lined it up with the mounting holes on the handguard and used a drill to tap through the aluminum inserts inside the HG.

It took me 10 min tops.

I have a magpul grip on mine, works like a champ!

thanks for the info. i think i will take this route before upgrading the handguards. i dont really like the looks of the aftermarket ones. my brother and i will be using it for cqb so thats why i ask if its flimsy, with all the runing and gunning i dont want an unsafe situation

I don't think you'll have any issues with that in that respects, I think your best bet would be buying a foregrip that comes with a mounting rail, that way you can save a little bit and get yourself a railed hand guard.... The Daniel defense ez car rails are pretty good and relatively inexpensive, and you don't need tools as simple as swapping out the plastic stock ones

On the weekend I got the Cadex 6" rail and installed it on the bottom of my hand guard.

Added a Magpul AFG and the fit is perfect.

The angle of the AFG is taking a bit to get used to, but so far, so good.

Mind you, I took the aluminum heat shield out, and then tried to re-install it. What an f'ing pain.

I couldn't get the metal to line up with the slots, so I didn't get it on.

Ill look at it again another day.

I used a hair dryer to soften the plastic!

I have a rail that bolts directly to the handguard that I picked up from Poco Military Supply (I think it's made by Nc Star :stirthepot2: and costs about $15) with a Magpul Vertical Grip. I used the blue loctite and it is solid after 6 months and about 4000 rounds later. My first training day with the rail on I didn't use loctite and one of the screws loosened and fell off after 300 rounds. I felt like a bit of a tard with the rail hanging off the handguard by only one screw.
