I bought a sxs 12 guage from tradex and I want to cut the barrells to 22 inch and add open sights, I have a set of remington sights to use. I am wondering if I could use one of the new epoxy based glues or some other product to glue the sights to the center rib rather then soldering or drill and tap. Anyone ever try this?

joey.45: The two barrels after being cut are likely not to shoot (slugs for instance) to the same point of aim and may not have even before being cut.
I'm not sure adding sights will be any more effecetive than using a simple bead and knowing what allowances you have to make for differences in point of impact..
I think I'd try it out before going to the effort of adding the sights.

I have epoxied sights onto guns a dropped sight wouldn't mater. Never had one pop off either. If you are thinking bear defense you need to do it right, and that may be a challenge. Soldering could release the rib, and screws may not have decent bearing everywhere.

I was thinking of bear defense/truck gun kind of thing. I work in the bush and in hunting season there's always grouse on the road and the odd chance at a deer or elk. I am often walking by myself in the bush and have had a few run ins with bears ,only one full out charge and my dog got me out of that one,but now she's gone so I thought of packing a gun. I was thinking of a combination gun but anything in a high powered cartride are usually expensive, not something I want knocking around in the crewcab, and it would be too cumbersome to pack for defense. I like the idea of a sxs over a pump because they look cool too ,sort of like a poor mans double rifle. I know that the chance of the barrells shooting to point of aim are slim,so I thought I could line up the sights for slugs on side and use buck instead of a slug for the other. The gun I got from Anthony is a minty husky 1310 and I,m having guilt pangs about cutting it . Now I'm really running around in circles! Decisions decisions. Help[ me out here guys!

If the gun is real nice, I would keep it or sell it
and buy something like a Stevens 311 beater
or a Rossie coach gun, strong, but no class ,
something like a sks, whatever you do will
not make any more ugly.
Mind you it is you gun- so? ,if you cut it,
make sure there is solder on the rib at the cut,
What I do is clean inside of rib and barrels
and stuff some degreased steel wool in and
with a heavy soldering iron melt some soft
solder in there -I use 60/40 radio solder,
or you can stuff some J.B. weld in to fill the gap.
Do Not Use a torch thou .
A set of those ( I forget what the name is)
day glow? sites might be opion, magnets in them,
I have had a set on a Win 101 for 5 yrs and never
had it come off.

The last time I was on Martini & Hagn's website they has a sxs with 22 inch barrels and express sights. Contact them and ask how the sights were mounted. I personally think for a truck/defense gun glue is not the way to go.

I have a factory SxS slug gun with the rear sight as shown below. A simple dovetail with a locking screw that jams into the rib.

Here's the front sight.

And here's a shot of the receiver. Yes, it has taken a number of feral hogs too.

The issue of getting both barrels to shoot to point of aim is very real. My gun was reulated using the 1 oz Rottweil Brenneke MP slugs and throws pair after pair inside 2 1/2" at 50 meters with the slugs landing right on top of the front sight. I have tried a number of other slugs and they threw patterns rather than groups.

Have you tried the gun as is with slugs to see how they group and pair up?
