Attempt at percision build & setting up for a duel

This is another "check out my build" thread. Just looking for some feedback, comments, rude remarks, same old stuff.

After selling a nice Remington 700 Police Sniper and regretting it instantly I decided to try and put together an amateur precision rifle.

1. I want to try and build a rifle that will shoot out to 1000 meters.
2. Zombie Defense.
3. I'm going to challenge a CGN member (*cough sylencer*) to a shoot out with my cobbled together rifle against his PGW Timberwolf (and since Nemesis Arms #####ed out and wouldn't lend me a rifle for a shooting competition)

Right now I'm tracking using the following

Remington 700 AAC-SD in .308
AICS 2.0 Stock
Badger Ordnance 20MOA rail.
Badger Ordance FTE muzzle break.
Vortex Viper PST 4-16X50 SFP scope
Accuracy International bipod
Timney Trigger


Am I missing anything besides a 4-leaf clover?
 
I think you could spend your money a lot more wisely but it should still get you out to 1000 meters.

Heck I shoot milsurps to 1000 meters. The burm fears me. (the target is usually pretty safe)
 
Looks like a fun getup.

For rude remarks: your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberry.

For advice: could have done just as well witha mosin nagant with a scope. Whole kit costs less than your stock.

Please take pics and tell me about why you love your aics.

Are you racing for pink slips against a guy shooting a .338 at long range and he knows his rifle??? It might determine your strategy on your build (ie: don't spend much).

I'd suggest that your 16x max is too low for 1000yds - I've shot it with 10x and 16x in competition ... much prefer 27-40x. The lower powers don't give you hold overs for wind shifts (you're trying to center on the target with a fence post is what a buddy referred to it as). What you also need to look at is your cartridge and what you are planning to shoot (reloads vs. factory) - the 1x10 twist is setting you up for the heavy's and depending on your range elevation, you may have stability issues with lighter bullets (say 175gr and less). Not sure why you'd bother with the new chassis if 'cobbled' is the aim - just bed/crown and adjust the trigger if you can trust a local gunsmith. Then a $hitload of practice before the grudge match!

Sorry not the Timberwolf the Coyote, he's using a .308 too. I can't afford a true AI (though I may be close by the time I'm done tinkering) so figured what the hell, have fun with it. The looks really appeal to me. I'm sure he's a much better shot than me but I'm taking a faith-based approach to winning :)
I thought about the 6-24 but thought I might miss the sunspot.

Would also suggest getting a 45moa rail minimum since the PST has a max elevation of 75moa. and shooting out to a mile with a 308 takes you beyond 100moa, depending on your ammo.

Was it a 20moa? for some reason I thought it was a flat. Also, the 45moa max elevation didn't help on your scope. But i'm pretty sure if we had more round. We would have had you hitting the rock :)

Perhaps a wee bit of common sense.

You could take a shortcut by finding a Rem 700 SA and mount a "good" barrel. AICS 2.0 stock price is close to the cost of a new barrel installed. That stock and all the gizmos you're adding, won't do a damn thing for accuracy, and cannot make a crap barrel shoot well. Why buy a Timney when a Jewell trigger is available?
 
the Rem 700 is a great base for a very accurate precision rifle. Also consider a custom if going to do all the blue printing and want some added niceities. The cost is almost the same for the custom.

Definitely add a quality match barrel. PGW's are using some of the best match barrels available. Factory barrels rarely if ever come close.

The stock and other accessories are nice and will make for a "tacticool" rifle but will do nothing to help with the actual accuracy performance. I assume you have a decent budget for this build.

Spend the money on items that actually help the bullets go into the same hole.

another considering is the optics. Sightrons are simply so much better for LR shooting - optics, trackings.

You do not need to spend alot of money. You just need to apply it to items that help you reach your goal.

A build that will have no issues shooting as well or better then a PGW. way less money then the project you have in mind and better performance.

I've been trying to explain this to him for the longest time :) I suppose if we take photos instead of videos though. He might look cooler then me :) Win by style I suppose
