Attempt at percision build & setting up for a duel

Down the road I may swap out the AAC with a more high-end 700. I gotta worry about engagement bands from 10 meters to 1000 so I can't get tunnel vision with just this project :)

How do Sightrons compare with Vortex price wise?

1000 is perfectly doable with a 308... Providing your gun shoots accurately with the ammo, and you do your part with the rifle.

That said, you are against a very, very steep slope against a precision built .338LM. At that distance, the .338 is just stretching its legs, whereas the .308 is running out of steam. Wind will be your biggest enemy, so I hope you are very good at calling it to correct properly.

Regardless, the only way to advance your shooting is to get out there and find your limitations, then go home and figure out how to overcome them. Go for it, just don't expect to come out on top in that shoot unless the .338 shooter is a real mouth breather.

He meant to say PGW Coyote, not Timberwolf. He is competing against another 308.

Would someone be able to look at this picture and tell me what kind of attachment they used on the front of their AICS in order to attach the bipod?
Thanks

Thanks Arc.
Do those spigots ever come with 1913 rails on the side to put attachments or side mounting bipods?
How would one go about putting 1913 rails on the side of the aics chassis?

They do , you can buy rail pieces to attach on the spigot mount.
Victor Company makes 1913 rails for the side of the chassis as well. Just cruise the atlas and victor company website.

Shooting at 1000m today was almost impossible! 15in. disc and we hit it like 6 times out of 100. 168gr match ammo and 25km/h swirling winds. MVs were wayyyyy down in the crapper due to -10 temps. Bullets were fully subsonic at 850m!

I'd be buying the cheapest used 700 I could find and a used or new custom 30 cal barrel off the EE to save money over buying new. Slap a jewel on and bed it in a used 700P or Boyds laminate stock. Then you'd at least have a fighting chance!

I would have taken the cash for the AICS and instead bedded the rifle in a Medalist stock. The savings would be enough for a decent barrel and rock a Sightron SIII instead of Vortex. Then you are in a different league in terms of barrel and optics. It will be potentially very accurate. You'll need it to keep up with a Coyote.

Thanks for the link. Not the best website for navagating. I found some rails ( http://shop.victorcompanyusa.com/8-MINI-PICATINNY-RAIL-w-QUICK-DETACH-MOUNT-VC-MINI-QD-PIC-RAIL.htm ) but
1. it sounds like they are for their viper skins and not the standard 2.0 AICS stock; and
2. it sounds like they're intended for slings.

Could I attack a Vltor side-mounting bipod legs to that rail?

Yes I suppose you could you would need:

-BT19 Spigot mount

-BT20 AAIS Rail Set

Then just attach the VLTOR legs I guess.

But if it were my coin, I would be going to the BT19 mount and Atlas NC bipod. Atlas looks far superior to the VLTOR legs. There appears to be polymer leg housings on the VLTOR and the level of adjustability appears poor at 8.5-11" on their website. Or go to an LRA bipod if you are packing serious weight.

Thanks.

I can't decide between a standard Harris bipod ($100 ish ) or the BT19 Spigot mount & BT10 Bipod ($350?).

Is there a huge difference in terms of performance between them? A quick look at 700AICS setups shows both styles equally in use.

Bipod
Trigger upgrade
Muzzle break
10-round magazine
and then it should be done.

Can someone recommend a decent muzzle break?

I was leaning towards a Badger Ordnance FTE from Wolverine supplies but I just noticed they increased in price to $183 so I'm looking around for other options just incase. Surefire breaks don't seem too abundant in Canada.
