Geez...
That looks like an 'Enfield RSAF' L8A2 series rifle. Is there an insert in the charger bridge to run 7.62X51 clipped ammo?

Yes, there is indeed a 7.62 clip insert.

Wow...very nice! I've never seen one. Sure looks like a real British Enfield conversion.

So, you're in a position to tell us about it. How well does it feed, extract and eject? :)

I would expect very well but interested to hear.

And oh yes, would love to see pics of the bolt head showing extractor and also of the receiver milling in the magazine opening from the bottom.

CO means Charnwood Ordnance. They did several aftermarket conversions of Enforcers, L8's, L42's etc. The conversion number would indicate 1989. Is the mag well relieved for the Enfield mag? Also see a bedding dowel so it must have been accurized at some point in is lifetime.

Feeds and ejects flawlessly. Just Like .303 Long Branch would;) Pics soon.

you got a real gem.
Less than 20 imported into canada by collectors source in the early 90's
Very scarce in north america
Charnwood only built around 300 in total
essential for any 7.62 enfield collection
love the one I have

I recall reading a thread on Gunboards USA about 15 years ago . A bunch of dissapointed Charnwood conversion owners talking about feeding and accuracy issues. Might be why this specimen has been worked over (hopefully by someone that knew what they were doing). Anyhow, the reports were dismal but I'm hoping you have a good one there. Does she have the converted rear sight to metres? I believe these went out to 1000 metres (rather than the conventional 1300 yard 303 Brit MkII rear vernier sight).

Those conversions used the 303 rear sight for the 7.62 cartridge. So the cartridge never really meshed with the elevation markings on the 303 rear sight.

The good news is you appear to have a genuine Enfield made mag, not one of the copies. Is the extractor the 7.62mm one with the larger head and the same Enfield mark as on the mag after the "65"?

Other good news is the rifle probably has UK 7.62mm proof marks(?)

Don't know anything about the quality of the barrels or their origins, but no reason to think it is not highly accurate in the right hands.

Are the undersides of the top flanges in the mag well milled out to accept the 7.62mm mag? Not always required for the mags to function though.

Too bad the original markings were ground off.

Looks pretty standard over all.
