ATTENTION: all handgun owners - political issue - banning handguns

"Don't think this is just about banning handguns, or even all guns. This is about control, plain and simple. As evidenced by their policies and comments, our government does not believe we can look after ourselves. If they give us OUR tax money back, we will waste it on "Beer and popcorn". No need to defend yourself, just call the police!"

Dead right. I lived in Britain for 2 years recently (2001-03) and was shocked to see the effects of a disarmed society. They obey all authority by rote, and the govermnet DOES think it's everyone's mom & dad, telling them whats best.

You dont even file your own income taxes over there - it's done for you! (Ads saying "Remember to work legally, otherwise you might be paying too much tax!").

Everytime I read in the paper about an abuse of authority, a cop overstepping his bounds, or a dentist pulling all of someone's teeth out (that didnt need it) there was never any questioning by the people victimized by these abuses or mistakes; nobody would say to their doctor/dentist "OK, I've heard your diagnosis, I'll go and get a SECOND OPINION and then we'll move forward". No questioning, no thought. And many people who just do as they're told.

IS THIS THE SORT OF NATION WE WANT?! Guess we'll have to change that line "our homeland STRONG AND FREE".

Here's the empirical data. Empirical data does not lie.

UK: Guns banned. Violent crime up 52%

USA: CCW Permits MUST be issued on request now. Gun ownership up. Violent crime in those states is down 38%.

Elsewhere on this board I have a longer post with the sources of this information. The source is the government itself. All other sources reveal the same or similar data for these and other countries.

The possiblity of one defending oneself with deadly force makes violent criminals think twice. MORE IMPORTANTLY... THE MANDATORY SAFETY TRAINING TRAINS PEOPLE TO ACT/REACT APPROPRIATELY and leave the policing to the police. And escape rather than fight or attempt to take life with a concealed or other firearm. IMHO it is the TRAINING that is saving lives as much as the possession of defensive weapons.

Our job is not so much to fight the government or the beaurocrats, but rather it is to educate the public with good hard data.

It breaks my heart every time I think of the young student that was taken off life support yesterday after being attacked here in Toronto. It was a senseless death. One that could have been prevented by a CCW Permit AND more importantly, by the training that goes with it. In Mr. Serba's case it would have saved his life and his assailant would likely not be awaiting trial now for murder. Both would be at home having a good night of sleep. Such a shame that so few people can cause such a ruckus.

I remember the days when Cadets in high school had the use of rifle ranges on the high school premises, were permitted to sign out firearms for target practice, etc. What I do NOT recall is there having ever been a single incident of a school being shot up or a cadet shooting themselves in the foot or worse. Zero. For several years. So what has changed?

toronto guy is right, we need to educate our youth about issues in the world and raise them right. You don't see any farm boys that grew up shooting guns and working on the farm going nuts and shooting everyone in a downtown toronto street. I truly believe that the government is using guns as a bandaid to solve a bigger problem. Poverty and lack of supervision due to financial contraints etc. both parents working while little billy is learning how to gangbang, or little billy didn't get any attention and kills the better off kids that did. The problem with soceity doesn't have anything to do with guns. But will the politicians listen? No its easier to ban guns, than fix poverty and how kids are being raised.
