I have this 30-30 rifle that I'm thinking of selling and looking for some advice on a realistic value.

I received it a few years ago on a trade. I was assured at the time it was unfired. It has been in my safe since - still not fired.

Being the second owner I can not guarantee that it's unfired but it certainly looks in every respect that it has not been. The rifle is flawless. As seen in the photo it is fitted with an adjustable rear peep site.

What can I reasonably expect to sell it for? Any help is appreciated.

The rifle does appear in great condition and you are wise to not assume it is unfired. Saying that, the cross bolt safety is much hated amongst lever action fans, but that doesn't affect the condition, just potential sale. Current production cost, less 10%, is a fair start and see where you end up.

Right now out west here a 30-30 is hard to come by and new Marlins are just not available until ruger starts releasing thier new offerings. Older remlins are going off the shelves around 1k or slightly more..in normal times that gun would bring 4-500 locally.

$4-500 locally!? Where the hell do you live, because I'm coming there to look for lever actions when this whole Covid thing blows over!

$400-500 around here gets you a beat up old gun, likely drilled and tapped for a scope mount that doesn't come with the rifle, a bit of rust on the metal, peeling finish on the stocks, missing rear sight elevator and/or front sight hood... You get the point. The OP's gun is worth a lot more than $500...

OP is there a dovetail for a regular rear sight on the rifle? Also, is that the original front sight, or a replacement to match the height of the rear sight? Looking at base model 336s online they appear to have a hooded front sight? (https://www.firearmsoutletcanada.com/marlin-336c-30-30-winchester-18-5-barrel-blued.html) Aftermarket sights *probably* add to the value, but I'm not certain on that, would depend on the brand, quality of work to install them, etc.

If they were selling for $800 last time FOC had them in stock, I'd bet you can get very close to, or even better than that for it considering how nice it looks in the pics.

Didn't Cabelas used to have some Marlin 336C or some variation with a scope and worse iron sights for like $550 back in the day, like 2 years ago? He might be referring to that.

I live in northern alberta. Pre covid a marlin 336c was going for 650$ new and 4-500 used. That rifle has aftermarket XS sights which may or may not bring higher value depending. Last oct I sold a 1895 45 -70 with skinner front and rear for 700$ and was a really fair deal. Now they are going 1200$used.... 3 years back I bought a 336y new for 520$ from canadian tire sold that one for 400$ six months later as my wife thought it was too heavy for her...

Yes there is a dovetail from which the original rear site was removed. I'm quite sure the front site is a replacement - I believe the original has a brass bead whereas this has a white bead. And it does match in height with the rear. I don't know the site brand. The install is perfect. As for it looking nice in the pics. The pics don't do it justice - it's pristine.
