Good for you buy 5 tags if you can fill em And good for you for reading the regs. I don't hunt is 87 any longer or 79 so was not aware of the extra tag allotments . But as you stated, your first tag is a lottery. After that you can buy extras if they are available. They are not always available.

What I don't understand in wmu's with extra tag allotments (excessive deer numbers) is why they don't make your first tag a doe tag? then if you fill that, you earn a buck tag. Seems like better plan to reduce heard numbers and would increase the survival of younger bucks. And on top of that for good management why not a 4 point on one side antler restriction for bucks to ensure more 1 and 2 year old bucks make it to an older age class and provide better opportunity for hunters.
 
Unsuccessful in 76 and 48. Can't complain too much; got my first doe tag last year in 76 and got a doe the same year, so I feel ahead of the game. Have never seen an Antlered deer in 76 though, all my cams show just does.

*UPDATE*....... My buddy just called me, and he got a doe tag!! That makes up 1 for 2 in 56. It's nice to have the option of taking whatever's legal when the season comes. Given that we just have one week, we have to sacrifice a virgin or something to the weather gods so that we don't have lousy weather like last year.
 
I guess 84 isn't 100% anymore as 1 guy so far in our gang was unsuccessful but my brother and I got ours. Been close to 25 years since I was last shut out of the draw. He never put in for a second choice because its been 100% for so many years, didn't need to. We'll know better next year.
