I have been looking for a good scope mounting solution for my Anschutz sporter silhouette rifle (64 action) that was strong, cheap and with some slope built in if possible. It also had to be within the rules for scope height and overall rifle weight, which are pretty lenient so I wasn't worried about those so much.
I was using Warne rimfire rings which can be used for both 3/8th and 11mm dovetails by flipping one part of the ring, but I was not convinced they put the scope directly over the bore.
My search had me looking at Weaver rail adaptors, Burris rimfire rings, BKL mounts and even getting a set of steel rings custom lapped to a certain slope (which is pretty reasonable from mac1airgun.com/droopers.html) but I wanted something available locally and off the shelf.

This led me to airgun mounts. Specifically ones designed for European magnum air rifles because they require very strong mounts and some slope to compensate for their barrel droop.

Enter the RWS 25mm mount:

I saw this thing and after doing some math figured out it had about 25 minutes of slope, it was also fairly cheap and available from a good canadian retailer.
I ordered last friday and it was in my hand on Wednesday, not bad!

Mounted-up and the first issue I saw was that it partially blocks the ejection-port. The 64 actioned Anschutz isn't noted for great ejection characteristics so I was a little worried how it would perform.
The other thought I had was whether I had mis-calculated the slope, would I be able to zero at 40m for the chickens?
Expecting a few hang-ups and hopefully some moderate success I headed out to my range on a drizzling day (thankfully we have covered firing points).

The results were excellent. 40m zero is now at 4 turns from bottomed on my Elite 4200 4-16 down from 7 turns (thats a real ~21 MOA slope, so I was close in my calculations.
Ejection was not really a problem so long as I used a positive technique and worked the bolt quickly.
Accuracy was better than with my last rings, that could be a result of better optical centering.
Previously I would run out of elevation around 130yds but I was shooting gongs around 200yds with several turns still available. I'm guessing I can probably shoot point of aim past 250yds, which is as far as I like to plink.

The mount is not low by any means, but it puts the scope in a comfortable position for silhouette and the scope bore is now 1-7/8" above the barrel. Lots of room for large objectives if thats your thing.

This should provide a good mounting option for anyone shooting a CZ, Anschutz or Walther rifle.

Cheers,
Grant
