Hi

Are any of you guys running a can am outlander 400xt?

I have one and my mechanic is trying to convince me that the frame is bent under the seat. But when I look at the parts schematic for the frame, it's bent there on purpose.

If you have an outlander, can you take off the seat for a second and send me a picture?

I'm pretty sure someone is trying to pull one over on me.

Thanks
EB

if you look here you should be able to find schematic for your frame.

ht tp://www.canampartshouse.com/oemparts/l/cam/500b2d77f8700228ecf58d5a/2007-outlander-400-xt-4-x-4-parts

I know some of the older can am 800 frames would bend right behind the front diff, but I am not sure if they would bend under the seat. Try lifting the front end off the ground and rest it on the back rack. The frame should be nice and straight and not look like this

I was having an issue with my 2000 Arctic Crap 500 auto . No body could answer the question for me , a handling question . was looking on kijiji and seen one like mine for sale . Met up with the seller , short road test . Didn't buy it but learned some thing from it .
You could do same thing , go check one out to compare to your own ..

I have the same quad . Pm me and I'll give you a pic of exactly what you want , might have to talk me through it

what year??? I had a 2004 400xt that my stepfather wanted from me and offered me a little money and it's his now. I could go over this afternoon and take a pic. just the frame under the seat???? mine had the notorious cracked frame under the bike that my stepfather welded back together. I could list the other problems but the list would be way too long......... LOL
super nice riding bike and motor never gave me a problem. I did really like the bike even with the numerous issues I had with it.

I'm headed out to a tree for the rest of the afternoon. I could stop by my parents and take a pic in the morning if you want. just pm me and let me know exactly what you want pics of. I have to drive by there place in the morning after the kids dentist appoint and on the way home after I bring them to school.

I put mine in the shop and pulled the seat off and see what you want . It comes flat from rear to front and bends up at about 30 degrees an inch or two front of the v in your furniture. I'll take a pic and send to your email if you still need it

check with someone looking under the bike when you sit on it and also look for cracks in the frame. common with them. most of the time you can't see it until there's some weight on the bike and you can see it split.

The bottom of the frame is nice and straight. A dent near the front but straight.

The biggest thing to watch for on the frame by the seat is cracks in the weld, I've never seen one bent before. As for underneath a great way to reinforce the frame is cut open the back of the square tubing and pound in three pieces of square tubing that have been tack welded together. you can rip an A arm off and not bend the frame then lol (i did this on my 800 can am)

These frames are a poor design and a dent creates a weak point. How did you check the frame for straightness?

So many older Can Am's ended up with bent frames that people actually started manufacturing and selling steel and aluminum spines that you ram into the frame to stiffen it up.
