ATV Tub Trailer Big Game Loading Ramp

When I shot my bull moose back in October, we did the 'flip the tub trailer on it's side' loading deal.

Well that might work okay if your trailer had really stiff tires or inner tubes, but mine don't have tubes and they're just a soft ATV tire. So of course we popped the beads off both tires on the bottom side.
So we had a 1,000 lb bull moose in the trailer with the trailer leaning way over to that side.
And on the rough trail we were on, the damn trailer flipped like 3 times, so in all we had to load the moose 4 times.

What a ****show!

So I came up with this idea for loading big game (or other stuff) into the tub trailer.
One thing that might be a problem; winching through the roller fairlead limits how far I can pull the winch line.
I do have a simple boat trailer roller I could use instead, I guess I'll have to see how this works?
The fairlead does ensure the winch line pulls straight though.

Feedback always appreciated! If you've got ideas on a better way I'm open, let's hear 'em!

Got a similar system on my moose trailer except the winch is mounted on the front of the trailer itself. I think I'm up to 7-8 moose with this system so far.

Yes it does. The original ideas was to be able to drop the tailgate and add an extra 1.5’ to the bed but in reality that puts too much weight to the rear and will actually lift the rear of the quad off the ground! It does drop down bellow parallel and acts as a ramp.

Depending on your guys' hunting grounds. Have you considered one of those Range-Road multipurpose trailers? They do have a metal tub but also have a winch/crane setup. Or even something like the woodlands multilander I think they call it.
Around here they'd work great for late season hunting on frost, but don't know how they'd do in wet swampy areas as the tub isn't sealed, and it would be heavier

We got this trailer last year from Princess Auto and love it. It has a drop down tailgate and a removable front. Used it for several elk now. My buddies side by side doesn’t have a rear winch so we just pass the winch cable under the machine and winch right on. My Ranger has a rear winch and I can just winch on easy peasy. An excellent trailer.

I have a game hoist also, which I've used primarily in the pickup receiver for loading deer.
It works great and will lift a tremendous weight. I've used it to lift birch logs also.
But it wouldn't work to load an entire bull moose, which is the purpose of the game loading ramp.

And sometimes when you ask a question, as would the roller fairlead limit how far my winch line can run, well in a way
you're answering your own question.
So I went ahead and built a new steel roller to replace the fairlead.
I made it narrower, taller, and deeper.
Here's pics of it compared to the fairlead, and beside the roller that I put on the rear.

a few years back we were hauling a moose up a steep hill. Steep enough that we had strapped the moose in to keep it from sliding off the back. Shortly after we crested that bit of torture, the trailer flipped. Now, because the moose was strapped in, all we did was use another atv's winch to right the trailer moose and all. Didn't have any tire issues, and yes, they were soft atv tires.
