ATV use

completely agree with the registration and licensing of atv .......
but for a different reason .... i would like to easily insure my atv to drive along the side of the road and plow out drive ways and parking lots legally .
this is next to impossible right now to do right now in b.c.

I don't think you would make much money. Quads are fun to plow with but parking lots? You could buy an old truck with an 8 foot plow cheaper than an atv with a plow and have the job done a lot faster.

Totally illegal here in Newfoundland. Heavy fines and confiscation. Unless of course you are on one of the licenced trails or there is 3 inches of frost.

"Not all 'hunters' get it."
I saw guys driving a truck around in the wmu 400, wearing camo(inc face veils!), just driving all day. Saw them maybe a dozen times in one day, even when I was way off the road. I can't imagine just driving somewhere without doing some kind of scouting for hunting spots, and then just driving all day hoping to see something.
If these nimrods do see a big game animal(Elk/deer/sheep) with good headgear and they do manage to turn the radio down before they open the window to shoot it, do they pay money to get it mounted? Can you imagine having a "trophy" on your wall that you shot off the road from your truck? I don't see ATV's any differently.

I ride my ATV to and from my tree stand...its legal, and it saves me 9km of walking in complete darkness...You may not like hunters using ATV's, but I don't like hunters that criticize others for their recreational choices. If you don't like it, take up knitting or solitaire...they are activities that you can enjoy in your own little bubble and never have to deal with another person again.

If its legal, giver!!

Using any vehicle to get to a hunting spot might be a neccessary evil. It's not the same as hunting from a vehicle.
And yes, I'd love to be able to hunt in my own little bubble witout having to deal with anyone else.

Here is a silly example of laws and ethics:

In the zone I hunt In Sask I cannot transport any bow, firearm, etc.......... on an ATV.

I can legally transport my bow or firearm in my vehicle all the way to my stand if I wish, and if it would fit.

What is more ethical to take through the bush and trails to your spot?

What does more damage to the environment?

What makes more "noise" and upsets other hunters?

As for grouping everyone together that uses an ATV for hunting/retrieval/equipment transport as those that run two stroke Banshees ripping up the ground is not a fair assumption.

Many hunters use their ATV for varying reasons, disabilities, transport of equipment , retrieval of game, etc...........No need to condemn these people just because they use an ATV.

Ban ATV's, but guns are okay? Be careful of that slippery slope, there is no call for anyone to dictate what others can or cannot do when it doesn't harm them. Being annoyed by what somebody else decides to do does not constitute being harmed by them. Live and let live, folks...otherwise we're no better than the people trying to take every last gun-like object from us.

Thats all we need in Canada is more laws regulating our hobbys. There will always be idiots among us, there's a big one on the first page of this thread (no names mentioned) but no need to run and get politicians involved and have their brain fart ideas ruling over us.

I say let's create an ATV Registry and all that comes with it. Nobody needs an ATV! Won't anyone think of the children?

Get your cheap, whinny ass on an ATV and see how much fun it is. Then maybe you'll understand ...or maybe not. :HR:

A couple I've known for a coon's age did the walk, horsey thing. The wifey was at an auction and bought herself a Honda atv. Hubby had his nose in the air until he tried it out. The photos have not stop coming. They are fun and useful.
Fuel is fuel and hay is hay. I'd be willing to bet there isn't much of a vet bill on an atv. Used in a manner in which all can tolerate and they are the cat's jammers. :)
For those of you that are of the ruff tuff cream puff sort of critters, have at'er.

I have an ATV and really enjoy riding it. I was never compelled to walk back and forth through the same mudhole, but with an ATV I actually find it entertaining. Who would have thought.
