Just sold my 300cc quad thinking of either upgrade to another quad 500cc and up or a side by side.

What is the pro / con on a side by side?

Any input will be very much appreciated.

I think a SxS is easier on you... The oldest member of our moose camp recently picked up a SxS and parked his ATV...

I think ATV's can get into spots a SxS might not be able to? Others will be able to confirm...

True. ATV's are more nimble and responsive. Easier to trailer, or load into a truck. Better fuel consumption, if you roll over, easier to get back on 4 wheels

unless i am repairing a long fenceline, and need to carry a lot of tools, wire, tanks etc, i take the Grizzly.

If it is requires more cargo, i will either take the truck or the sidexside

I wouldn't go side by side unless you either need the increased carrying capacity (passenger or load), or are interested in getting something like a jacked up sport one to run dunes or wide trails. A standard quad rides better and is far more maneuverable than a standard side by side. I'd imagine the sport side by sides have nicer suspension though.

for me I parked the ATV when we picked up a Mule side by side, have 2 now, one at the lake and one at the home, for me it allows us to ride with our grandchild as a family, the mule is no speed machine topping out at 27kmh but has the bench seat, the reason we went with the mule its got the bench seat, allows to get in either side, will carry a decent haul and runs all day on a tank of fuel

do you ride trails or bush?

-if its always nice wide trails SxS is great (but more $$)

-if you are in the bush you will spend a lot of time with a saw where the ATV's won't

My current ATV has independent rear suspension and power steering. Comfort is night and day from my old ones

SxS are giant heavy beasts. What do you use your off road vehicle for? If it is going along logging roads or driving along fields to patrol your property, then SxS would be fine. Many trail riding trails wont allow SxS because they are too wide most of the time. Hunting in bush or swampy and muddy areas would be better off getting an ATV due to most SxS weighing over 1000lbs and are almost impossible to push free. Also towing one out (incase of problems) with an ATV is hard as well due to the weight. Buy a heavy duty winch for front and back.

my friends rebuilt 2 Suzuki side kicks into amazing bush machines. Heaters, on board gps, winch, ect ect ect. They go anywhere a SxS with go but for the cost of a quality SxS they built 2 offroaders. They take up the same footprint on the trailer too.
I use my grizzly 550 for hunting, snow plowing, ice fishing and yard work and for me it excels where a SxS would not be so useful
When I'm hunting I am just using the grizzly to get to an area and then on foot after that. No need for a passenger but if I did I would look at a 2Up machine.
If you are disabled or have some hard time with back/knees and need to hunt close to the roads and with a companion..... hard to beat a SxS or a done up Suzuki.

too pricey for what you are paying for but if you aren't into wrenching , buying a sxs might be the best plan
When I want to offroad and rip around, I have a 89 jeep Cherokee done up for the bush , no SxS required :)

Just bought a YXZ and love it, wouldnt go back to an ATV, although I am more trail/logging road adventurer. Light, stable and lots of power.

If I could hit the trails from my back yard I might have a SXS. Otherwise personally for me dealing with a trailer sucks, I love being able to load the ATV in the truck and hit the road. A SXS can't go the same places an ATV does and they are very pricey. You can get 2 ATV's for the price of a well equipped SXS. I was gung ho for a SXS about a year ago, then I drove my father in laws a few more times and realized it would be a waste of money for me. Just my opinion and your mileage will vary.

Had the Zewk and the quad.
Zewk was good as I could leave from home and do some circle lewps.
Quad I always had to come back to the truck.
Bawt a Rhino and while being an African Kritter is sure din't like mushkeg.
Mewv'd me arse up'ear and things are snowmobile wide and hated the snow
awn me lap.
Sold the African Kritter and bawt a bigger North'merikan Kritter.
This Grizz is les gattoes jammies.
While the Zewk won't go where the Rhino did, the Grizz out classes them all.
And I tend to stay way warmer on the ATV as well.

It’s a toss up, my buddy has a quad and a mule 6 seater. The mule has more creature comforts and he puts a baby seat in it and the wife and kid and his family roll around, has a roof, windshield and soft side windows that zip open and roll up. The rear bench seat slides forward and locks becoming a 3 seater and making a bigger cargo bed in the rear.

If your hauling a lot of gear it’s hard to beat, you need a proper trailer and vehicle to tow it though. It won’t go down real tight trails like a quad will, I’d prefer a good quad over a SxS or Mule to be honest. I can quickly load a quad in the bed of my Toyota, it goes pretty much anywhere steep and tight, uses less fuel and carries plenty of gear on the front and back racks. My last two deer were packed out on the back of my 400 Kodiak with the rest of my gear on the front rack. It all depends on what you need it for, overall for me quads make more sense. One for me and one for the wife, we plow the property and pull a small trailer to do chores around the place with the quad with zero need for a SxS. I’ll be buying a 660 or 700 Grizzly for the next atv.

I almost think his mule is as wide as my 93 Toyota 4x4, it has more room in the cab than my truck but I honestly have been able to go anywhere I want to in my truck with the quad in the back to really get into the bush.
