ATV's for hunting and hiking!?

Most of the places I hunt don't have too much ATV traffic but you can definately see their effects in other places. I have no problem when people use ATVs for recovering game(I have one for that purpose) or people that use them on established trails that are in dry, stable condition so as not to completely #### up the trail but I don't understand the people who hunt from an ATV. I find it tough enough sneeking up on a nice whitetail or elk on foot not to mention trying to do it having a 660cc ATV rumbling under my ass.

I love ATVs, they are a great tool but I wish people used them more sparingly, I have only put 350 KM on mine since 2003.

Good tool for the disabled hunter. I like to move my a** and walk in order to stay healthy. There is nothing better than the silence of a morning hunt...until the ATV group comes along.

Always a tough topic,atv ban would be very difficult to do, as there is almost 1 million atv's sold in N.A every year now,they contribute alot to bussiness.Atv tearing up trails will always be a problem, people don't realise someone is always watching.Before the 4x4 atv's it was people in 4x4 trucks tearing the sh**out of the roads and trails with 35" tires and damaging trees with winch cables.It will always be something.We need to educate all outdoor people be it atv's , skidoo's or 4x4's be resposible for everyone's sake

I think others have hit the nail on the head - it's the 'manners' so to speak. It's all in how you use it. Most guys seem to use 'em to recover game. Some use 'em just to drive to an area they're going to hike in or sit at.

I don't think there's any such thing as what "real" hunters do. Real hunters use pretty much anything, from tree stands to attractants, to walking to sitting and spotting, to horses cars trucks and atv's. It's not what you use or the method - it's how you do it.
