New members are encouraged to come out to the Aug 9-10 Open Practice weekend were I plan to have reloading demos by some of our best, followed by new members reloading and developing loads for their rifles until noon. In the afternoon, we shoot what we created via range orientation, safety and training.

So bring your fired cases or make some there (LOL), powder, primers, bullets and reloading dies with you Aug 9-10! We will have presses (3) on site and most of the tools required, (mics, verniers, pocket tools, trimmers, many different but not all inclusive die sets, powder measures and scales etc). I have and will bring 308, 6br, 22br, 300 WM, 7mm Mag, 6-250 threaded size and seater dies. I also have 308, 30x47, 6BR and 284 Wilson neck and seater dies. If you have your own dies, bring them with your tools too.

The idea is to have a 6BR and/or 284 and a 308 setup being demoed by a few members. I will start by explaining my reloading process with my 6BR and my 284, from new cases and all the pre prep work I do to them, (I have mostly tight necked rifles that require neck turning; 284s are .312, 308s are .335NK, 30x47 is .332NK, 6-250 is .272NK, 6BR is .269NK, 22MR is .243) to finding a load to try, case length measurements and possible trimming to the right length, possible neck turning setup, proper setup of size dies, resizing, to explaining both ladder powder charge tests and round robin fire order testing, then powder charging and bullet seating. Once this member is done his 308, another will start his 284. After the third demo is done, it's everyone else’s turn at the presses, to do their load work ups, for their cases and assist with die setups, and overseeing for pointers, if required. In the afternoon, we shoot it and make some empties. Next morning, loading followed by shooting in the afternoon. (I'm also sure some of our members will be just practicing in the morning, while some are doing the reloading thing, so we will have you covered, shooting all day long).

I'm having 2 greenshot non competitive shooters who are friends and are now or will be new members, come out for this event. A neighbor gal that wants to learn to shot a rifle, and a friend of my youngest who wants to come out and shoot my rifles. I will fire the ladder test 284 loads for my new barrel over a chrony at 1000 yds and then Mary and Evan will fire the 50 6BR rounds Saturday and I will instruct and help them stay on target. It all starts over again Sunday morning. Reload in morning, picking 2 or 3 loads that were in the "load window" and loading 5 up at each of these and firing in afternoon. From these 5 shot groups, picking one and then loading up this load and varying the sating depths to see if the group can be tighten up any.

This is not a course. It is just a few of us demoing our reloading steps and ways. The SPRA and its members will not be held liable for anyone that sees these demos and at a later unsupervised date, produces un-safe loads and fires them causing damage to themselves or others, or their properties.

If you want to join our association as a new member, you can come out and we will sign you up, new first time members pay only $5 for a full membership in 2014

BTW, we are on Fcaebook now too. Search for "Saskatchewan Provincal Rifle Association - SPRA" on FaceBook or visit www.saskrifle.ca

So only 10 guys showed for this event and they came to shoot, not load, which was fine by me, I could do some testing myself.

All of these tests were with pointed 180g Berger Hybred bullets, CCI BR2s and H4831sc powder, and neck turned 284 Winchester cases thru my Kodiak action.

At 800 yds, you can see the load window (52.9g to 53.8g) better (seen below via 2 fingers), but it is probably best to do the ladder test to find your load window at 1000 yds.

This one was 52g to 55.3g, shoot on Saturday. The one's marked C are folwers and chrony'd rounds before I started the ladder rounds.

These at 800 yds were chrony'd and went from 2791 to 2913 fps via a magnospeed chrony at the muzzle.

Next, on Sunday I increased the powder charges and also used a 1 thou small size bushing, but did not chrony this one.

Don't try a load ladder test at 600 yds, it is just way too close! Not bad wind reading eh, 2"x7" 10 shot group, varying .3g of H4831sc, from 53.2g to 55.9g and still not pressure signs!

It looks like there maybe another window at shots 7-9, at well over 2900 fps, I will have to retest and put them over a chrony, at 1000 yds!

My aim point was 6 o'clock 4 ring, excepting it to climb more.

I had a good time trying out my .223 at 300,600, 1000 yds and learned to miss well at 1000yds especially after some scope dialing by Kodiak...lol. Good day out, thanks

dialled my dope and on target 1st shot then just lost it even after returning to original settings. couldn't see hits even aiming for tactical grass targets on the backstop! good at 600,i guess i need to retry 1000yds
