Not everyone in the milsurp form considers the AIA Enfield as military surplus, as it isn't surplus and is of recent manufacture. Variant yes. Milsurp, maybe not. There have been a few in the milsurp side that suggest they are more of a Battle Rifle or a Sporting Rifle because of these issues.

Either way, AIA coming back wouldn't be a bad thing. Mags and rifles would be welcome.

I wanted an Auzzie rifle for my dad so I bought a Lithgow Enfield.

I suppose it fill the mark down under as its probably cheaper to buy an AIA than a USA import but up here I'd only be buying it because its an Auzzie product.

I read that as being a Canadian derived version of the SMLE, not a Canadian destined version of the SMLE.

There's the crux of the issue. Are they economically viable ? Cheaper to buy the real thing and they are common and affordable.

Grizz

AIA is most viable in Australia, with their gun laws. Since they have no semis allowed, they lost their SKS and M14 etc. rifles. So a bolt action rifle in the same calibres they lost is very useful. In Canada however, you can buy a like new Russian SKS semi for $225 and a Norc M14 for $400 or so... The case is a little bit harder to make.

From what I can see, people are much more excited about the mags than they are about the rifles.

That said, the AIA's are fine rifles.
