Auto Bolt Release

It allows you to only have to pull the bolt back and just let it go and it will close the action vs. having to pull the bolt back and press the little lever on the bottom of the action to release the bolt. Basically it's just to make it easier to close the action. I did it to my 10/22 when i had one and it made shooting it way nicer due to ease of operation. Oh and in case you didn't know it is only for the ruger 10/22.

Thank you. I think thats the rifle Im going to pick up for my first. Lots of good reviews, and a friend has one and loves it.

You can get a VQ part for about $12 or dremel it (following the instructions up top of this sub-forum) in about 5 minutes.

Either way it is a great cheap mod for this rifle.

On the left is a stock (factory) bolt release.
On the right is a Auto bolt release.
To make your own auto bolt release simply use a small file or dremel and remove excess material so that your bolt release ends up looking like the one to the right.

***Note***
To ensure proper function of the auto bolt release, you do NOT want the top of your hole to be filed flat. Again, you want your auto bolt release to ressemble the one to the right.

grabbed this from the 10/22 tips and tricks at the top of this sub forum

When you do it make sure you have the spring that puts tension on the bolt lock part in the appropriate spot. Will save you the hassle of trying to figure out why it wasn't working. First time I did it I made that mistake and took me like 2 hours to get it working, the second time I modded one took me less than 5 mins.

10/22 was my first purchase too, cannot complain about it other than horrible paint job.
