So I've had it in my head for a while now that when I finally stop bleeding money, I'd like to get a powder system that auto dispenses. I've seen the RCBS system that is around $400 that looks pretty good, and you can plug it into a computer for an interface on your screen I'm assuming.

Today I was at The Shooting Edge in town and noticed Lyman seems to have a few offerings as well. The Generation 5 looks REALLY nice as does the Gen6, it just doesn't have the memory the 5 has which I really don't think is a big deal, that's what log books are for, right? It also has a smaller footprint. Both also boast shielding from interference + anti static/drift and both seem to come with a reasonable price tag. $380 for the 5 and I thinkg $280 for the 6.

So what do you guys suggest? Are they all about the same? Any one to stay away from?

I have the charge master combo got it from natchez for $289 + shipping. I am very happy with it and it comes with the legendary rcbs warranty if you need it.

Hi,

I got the Gen 5 and loaded about 250x 338 LM with it so far. I can say the following with my limited time on it.

- I have no problem with interference/drift.
- I bought a 100gr check weights to verify accuracy as my load is +/- 90gr and its spot on every time.
- it does throw + .1 or -.1 sometimes. For example if you say 89.6gr it can throw 89.5/89.6/89.7
- I only used Vithavouri N570 powder in it ( rather big grains ) that might also affect it.
- I don't use the memory at all. ( I like to write things down ) but I do use the repeat function and that's flawless.

if I missed something or you want other info give me a shout.
edit : I paid $299 at wholesales in Langley

I bought the Hornady model a couple of years ago , I think P&D has them for $305, I bought this one because it is a lot less expensive that the RCBS one and at the time there were a few of my loading buddies having some issues with their RCBS units. FS

Buy an RCBS Chargemaster combo from Natchez in the U.S. and never look back, if you ever have a problem with it RCBS will replace it for free if it's under a year old, if it's older than a year they charge you shipping.

i just ordered this from natchez and i added a RCBS primer pocket brush to the order to get it over $300, if you order $300 worth of RCBS products you get a $50 mail in rebate offer on until December 31

I went with the Lynman system and machined a little donut to fit in the end, it slows down the dispensing by half and allows me to get extremely accurate loads as I do a lot of stick powder. The problem I have seen is that the tubes spin fast and then slow down as they get close, the clumped powder sometimes falls as a bit of a clump, which voids the accuracy. Some powders obviously work better then others, but with my little mod they all work just fine. Just takes a little bit longer, but I rarely if ever have to tweak the weight of a load to be exact. I verify all my loads on a manual scale as well and they are E.X.A.C.T.

cheers,

I have the Lyman Gen 6 and couldn't be more pleased. It'll often be +/- 1/10th grain when it dispenses, but in checking those charges on a balance beam they are still thrown more accurately than I would do with a manual measure, and a lot faster than dribbling (ugh).

For powders that flow too quickly it DOES come with a bushing that screws into the spout to slow down the dispenser. Longer stick powders and some ball powders need this. I find ball powders are the most messy to do, as granules will tend to bounce out of the pan and end up on the machine, the bench, the floor.

Since I only run ball powder through it for load development, and use a Lyman 55 for production, I'm not worried.

I can see using the dispenser for all loading with flake powder like Red Dot, or stick stuff like SR4759 that shears and bridges in my 55.

I have an old school Lyman with the update kit and it works great. The odd time a charge doesn't weigh spot on I just dump it back in the hopper.
It throws a charge in the time it takes me to seat a bullet...great time saver.

i just found out about a week ago when i was ordering the chargemaster

http://www.rcbs.com/pdf/2013_RCBS_Canada_Jan1_Dec31.pdf

"Purchase must be made between Jan. 1, 2013 and Dec. 31, 2013. Coupon must be received by Jan.
31, 2014"

Purchase $50 in RCBS equipment and receive $10 CASH rebate
Or
Purchase $300 in RCBS equipment and receive $50 CASH rebate

So if you made RCBS purchases totaling $50 or $300 between Jan. 1, 2013 and Dec. 31, 2013 you can send in your receipts and the box UPCs and get some cash back

Cool, got mine in like may/june 2012 though

Ya and i did better i threw the box away.

I still have my box lol

How much did you pay including the shipping charge and taxes and duty.

Thank you

I think it worked out to about $360 each( I had ordered 2 at the same time So shipping and duty should be cheaper for one). At the time they were selling for $499 locally. Even now they are $450 here so well worth ordering form the states.

This is what it cost me

RCBS CHARGEMASTER DISPENSER & SCALE $289.95
RCBS PRIMER POCKET BRUSH COMBO $ 16.49
Shipping to Edmonton, AB $ 63.09
Total $ 369.53

And the $50 rebate so it will end up costing me $319.53 USD ($336.25 CAD) shipped

At cabelas it would cost $469.99 + GST = $493.49
(at Wholesale Sports its $499.99 + GST)

So at the end ill end up saving $127 and I got the primer pocket brush, and that’s about $25 value here

RCBS chargemaster warranty isn't what it used to be. Dispenser screwed up and they want 200 bucks to, fix that made in china crap. Plus shipping. I am in denial waiting to figure out what I will buy next.

Were you using fine ball or flake powder? Heard powders like CEF 223 can bugger up dispensers. Use mine with extruded powers only, as powder measure is way faster with ball powders.
