Do you prefer an auto or a revolver for home defence? I would shoot it plenty, but the wife probably would not shoot much so maybe the simplicity of a revolver would be better..? What do you use?

Well, this is a fun one. Since you have to lock up the gun so securely to be compliant with the law, I suggest a large dog and a baseball bat. But if you are ever asked if the bat was for self defense, answer " I was in fear of my life, I want to talk to my lawyer". and nothing else.

I’ll bite.

Both options you listed must be stored UNLOADED in a case and locked, right? So in the heat of the moment, AFTER you’ve called 911, and you’re scrambling to get your gun out to protect your family until the police arrive... Which would you rather LOAD in the chaotic, probably dark, environment you find yourself in? Fumbling loose shells into a revolver one at a time? Or popping in a loaded mag and racking the slide?

But personally I’d prefer a shotgun. Also mag fed for ease of loading.

Some here suggest baseball bats or closet rods... that’s fine. I respect and appreciate their fear of a system that punishes victims. Truly. But I would personally rather go though a hundred trials and spend time behind bars, before I would allow someone to intentionally hurt my family, and that (to me) means being prepared with the appropriate tools.

Edited to add:

The number one tool in your home defence tool kit? Should be your Realtor. If you live in an area where you are legitimately concerned for the safer of your family... just GTFO. Seriously. It’s a bigass county. Your family is worth more than whatever’s keeping you there.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention the importance of Home fortification. Good doors and locks. Alarm. Dog. Don’t leave windows and garage doors open all day for thieves to see what’s worth stealing, etc. etc.

To answer the question (semi vs revolver for Home Defense)....I would choose a 45LC/410 revolver loaded Winchester Defender PDX1 shotshells.
3 plated discs and 12 BB shot should stop the threat....

Now you can own a Glock 19 again! 3mm longer barrel? Having it in a quick release lockbox of some kind? Bolted to whatever, with all 3 magazines loaded (10 rounders, single stack, work well too!) two finger press to the combination, insert mag, rack.

Whatever happens, with men in your house, at 0-dark-30. Having broken in? Will most likely be better for the family, and you at that time. Than you and your baseball bat taking them on. Being alive, is better than possibly being dead.

There must be lawyers here that can advise, better than I.

I'll just leave this here:

Thats a funny question most times asked or assumed by non hun owners, people often jest oh man steve is loaded for bear, if ever the end o the world comes make sure to grab food and head to steves, but my personal guns are locked up so tight and so far away from my bedroom which is most likely where one would be if some arse holle was trying to do ya harm, that its impractical to think they would do any good, and honestly i am a paper shooter i dont hunt anymore and my guns to me are honestly not considered defensive weapons, i would soon split the bastards head open with a five iron or walking stick if ever put in that kind of position
