My understanding is that Auto Ordnance does not use any surplus parts, all new manufacture.

Some folks on the milsurp forum have reported great success in adding USGI parts to these carbines. Whenther that is for LCF or because it was needed is anybody's guess.

I have not held an AO carbine in person yet and have no opinion on how they are.

On the low side of expensive. Not quite a dollar a round, but close. A retailer may be bringing in some steel cased new manufacture Russian .30 Carbine which, last time it was here, was quite reasonably priced.

I know this is an old post, but why not - the carbine is quick, light and compact and is all you need under 100 yards.

Why not? It's a new production gun. It's light and handy. More oomph than a .22, and lots of guys with old eyes have trouble with the iron sights.

I know there is a metal top hand guard available (somewhere, can't recall where I saw it) that is a picatiny base. Would make it real easy to mount an Eotech.
